I have been researching my family history since I was a young girl, so I have acquired an extensive amount of documents and photos. And I am delighted Findagrave has allowed everyone to have a free memorial page, which has given us a valuable genealogical site. I am happy to share my records and photos on Findagrave. We do not want those who have gone before us to be forgotten with photos and data hidden in boxes where no one has access to them. So far I have added over 500 photos, and now I see most of them being copied and used in family trees on ancestry.com and other historical databases. My photos have been cropped and fixed before being posted, so I KNOW that I am the original source.

For the most part, I have posted memorials and photos for relatives and ancestors. See my Virtual Cemeteries for my families. Also, I encourage others to add to findagrave, take photos, request photos and honor relatives with memorials.

Edits and corrections are welcomed. I want to transfer memorials to relatives or others who are interested in "maintaining them, by adding more photos and data. I think this a true remembrance of our relatives and friends, and I will add more photos, stories, obituaries, documents, etc. to memorials as time permits. This is a work in progress.

"We are the chosen. In each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again. To tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve…. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying I can't let this happen….. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take my place in the long line of family storytellers. That is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and restore the memory or greet those who we had never known before."

I have made many new friends from this great site. People who want to walk around cemeteries are an amazing group. I have many stories about the terrific people and incredible data I have received from people who look at or work on this site. For example, there was question about the death date of an ancestor. Finally, a wonderful person wrote to me about an ancestor's grave site, which had no tombstone, and she asked if I wanted her to post a picture of the "grassy spot." where his grave was located. My answer was yes and, she put a flag in the middle of the spot and posted the picture. Then she asked if I wanted a copy of the obituary that she had found. I was elated and after receiving it, I learned why the death date was questionable. The family left him on the ranch and went on vacation for a month, and when they returned they found he had died on the front porch—so when did he die? This posting enabled me and others after researching his Civil War Record to obtain a military tombstone. We had the installation ceremony in 2013.
