Bio

Through DNA analysis, I have identified two "mystery" sets of ancestors (or a parent or close sibling to):

Alexander Walker (1791-1856) and Lois Knapp (1790-1845), both b. MA. I have confirmed 7 triangulated DNA matches whose trees tie back to this family, and over 150 matches who share these 7 (and who do not have trees, or trees substantial enough to tie back).

William Ezekiel Murphy (1791-1867) m. Charity Hester Martin (1792-1884). I have confirmed 15 triangulated DNA matches whose trees tie back to this family, or into inter-related families Pickle, Wilson, Welborn, Martin, et al., (i.e. Pickle brothers married Murphy sisters, etc.).

This is paternal for me, and most likely along my Sheldon surname line, to the exclusion of others. Two main possibilities exist.

(1) Adaline A. (Crandall) Sheldon, F.A.G. Memorial 6762776, was the sister of Emelia E. (Crandall) Johnson, and Adaline's son Frank was married twice, his second spouse being Emelia's daughter Addie V. Johnson, so at least on paper genealogy my great-grandparents Sheldon were first cousins. However, DNA matches descending from Frank's first spouse Sarah Elizabeth Letts do not share Crandall DNA matches at all - even though Adaline was supposed to have been a Crandall. Likewise, they share one or two matches from our mystery group(s) but not enough matches to be conclusive. I would need three descendants from Frank and his first spouse to make a better conclusion but so far, I have only two.

I have only one descendant of Addie V. Johnson's brother, so descending only from Emelia and not Adaline, and she does have Crandall matches but excludes the other descendants from Adaline from any of my Shared Matches with her.

(2) Frank's grandfather (see No. (1) above), Benjamin F. Sheldon (1791-1870) married Lovisa (Rice) Sheldon in 1815. We have identified her father as Solomon Rice, F.A.G. 73436418 through an extensive DNA analysis. We believe Solomon was married more than once, and one descendant from Lovisa's older brother Dennis Rice (b. 1791) shares two or three DNA matches with us who are somehow connected to our mystery families, above, but not enough evidence is available to support this. So our second possibility is that we are looking at Lovisa's mother, so our shared ancestors would have to be at least one additional generation back from what I identified above. Her mother may have been Sylphina Rice, F.A.G. 74635174, but we have not yet identified a DNA descendant of this Sylphina's son Luther Rice, F.A.G. 74635336.
