Bio

I'm originally from northern Georgia. It was a
great place to grow up. We have some of the
most beautiful rolling mountains and fresh water
streams.
I'm of the fifth generation of the Bailey family. Three
more generations are still living there today.
Our pioneer ancestors were Ansel Bailey and Rutha
Mae Tipton Bailey.
In 1852 Ansel and Rutha Mae decided to move to the
wilds of northern Georgia. They left Yancey County,
North Carolina and arrived on March 3, 1852. They
settled on approximately 600-800 acres of land in
Districts Seven and Eight, First and Second Sections
of Fannin County. In one section was the Padena
Settlement located along the Toccoa River on "The
Old Dial Road" where they settled and lived.
The 1860, 1870, and 1880 Fannin County, Georgia
Census lists Ansel and Rutha Mae with their fourteen
children. The fourth child is our great grandfather
Hiram Madison "Matt" Bailey. Like his parents he
was another pioneer to brave the untamed wilderness
of the north Georgia mountains. He was a carpenter
by trade. He would marry our great grandmother
Margaret D. Crawford. She was the daughter of
George Washington Crawford and Sally Ann Falls.
She was a brave, strong, and industrious helpmate
and mother. They reared their children in the
Wilscot area along the Toccoa River.

Dear Ancestor
Your tombstone stands among the rest
Neglected and alone;
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished marble stone.
It reaches out to all who care,
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist;
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh and blood and bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot
And come to visit you?
