RE: Otto & Caroline Suckow (Hartland Center Cemetery)
Yes, they are next to the Gradhands. The section is the one the chapel is in, north of the blue utility building. I'm not sure where in that section but I would guess near the center.

RE: Wilbur & Naomi Kreppenneck
Wilbur & Naomi are not with the other Kreppennecks. If you consider a section the plots between the roads within the cemetery, I believe they are in the section just west of the section with the columbarium. Hope this helps.

Hi again. I have this timeline for Peter Knupfer that I had done. You are welcome to use as bio if you like. The umlaut ü is meaningful if Find A Grave can handle them. Best wishes from Bill #47764421

Pelagius "Peter" Knüpfer & Mathilde "Matilda" Reichardt
a timeline
Bill Weishaupt June 2015

There are records to indicate a marriage and family in Eglingen of one Peter Knupfer to Anna Maria Tress. The timeframe fits perfect but proof is elusive. Eglingen in Baden-Württemberg is a town located in Germany - about 293 mi (or 471 km) South-West of Berlin. There were seven children but only two surviving childhood - Filizitas born 1846 who married Nicolaus Münch in 1889 and Viktoria born 1848.

A search of the ships passenger lists finds "Pilatus Knüpfer" age 28, a farmer, having emigrated 27 October 1857 aboard the ship Athena from Bremen to New York City with Captain Schilling. Traveling with him is "Mathilde Reichardt" age 27. The person recording passengers was a German so we feel these names as recorded in the original passenger list are most close to the original German given and family names. Peter is to marry Matilda two weeks later.

Pelagius is of Latin origin. The meaning of Pelagiusis "the sea". Pelagio is a Greek name meaning Excellent Sailor a variant of Pelagius. Pelagio is also a variant transcription of Pelayo. Pilatus, as in Mount Pilatus, is from the Latin "armed with spears".

A marriage record is found for Buffalo, New York on Nov 10, 1857 - the marriage of Pelagius Knupfer and Mathildis Reichert.

1861 birth of Matilda. Mother recorded as Mathilda. Father as Pelagii Knupfer.

1862 birth of Anna Maria. Mother recorded as Mathilda Beichert. Father as Pelagius Knapfer,

1865 birth of Johannes Joseph. Mother recorded as Mathilda Quchert. Father as Pelagio Knupfer.

About 1866 maybe wife Matilda dies - maybe Peter remarries. This seems to be the big question considering the records with the extensive variation of names.

1867 birth of Johannes. Mother recorded as Margaretha Krey. Father as Pelazio Knupfer.

1869 birth of Matthias Pelagius. Mother recorded as Margaretha Kreier. Father as Pelagio Knupfer.

1870 birth of Anna Elizabeth. Mother recorded as Margaretha Gray. Father as Pelagio Knupfer.

The 1870 New York census Erie Co, Buffalo City documented the Knupfer family: Belagus age 38 born in Wuerttemberg, Margaret 31 born Prussia, Mathilde 10 NY, Maria 8 NY, Mathaeus 1 NY, Anna 4 months old born NY.

The 1880 New York census Erie Co, Buffalo documented the Knupfer family living at 91 Main Street as follows: Pelagus age 53 a gardener born in Prussia, Matilda 19 NY, Mathias 11 NY, Anna 9 NY. He is recorded as a widower indicating the prior death of Matilda and/or Margaretha.

In the Buffalo City Directory for 1886 page 595 we find three Knupfers at 1834 Main Street; Matthew working as an upholsterer, Pelagius working as a gardener and Peter working as a gardener. If we assume Pelagius is the father and Matthew is his son, then who is Peter?

1889 marriage of Ann Elizabeth. Mother recorded as Elizabeth Crune.

The 1892 State of New York census Erie Co, Town of Evans documented the Neubeck family and living with the family was Matilda's father, Pelagius (Peter) Knupfer a laborer age 65.

The 1900 New York census Erie Co, Town of Evans, Village of Angola living with the Neubeck family at 44 Lake St was Matilda's father, Pelagius (Peter) Knupfer age 73 born Sep 1826 in Germany and emigrated to the US in 1857 and married for 40 years (wife Matilda deceased). This census gave his emigration date to the US as 1857.

The grave at Holy Cross Cemetery is believed to be him - as "Peter" Knupfer born 1828 died 1906.

We seem to have a little conflict here with Peter Knupfer - two different family groups who seem to be the same Peter. We compare as follows, using the names as we find them in all the different ways as transcribed;

1) Pelagius Knupfer & Mathilda Reichert married 1857
children are;
Matilda b. 1861 mother Mathilda; father Pelagii Knupfer
Anna Maria b. 1862 mother Mathilda Beichert; father Pelagius Knapfer
Johannes Joseph b. 1865 mother Mathilda Quchert; father Pelagio Knupfer

Now we seem to change mothers?

2) Pelagius Knupfer & Margaetha Gray (or Krier or Krey) (or Elizabeth Crune)
children are;
Johannes b. 1867 mother Margaretha Krey; father Pelazio Knupfer
Mathias Pelagius b. 1869 mother Margaretha Kreier; father Pelagio Knupfer
Anna Elizabeth b. 1870 mother Margaretha Gray; father Pelagio Knupfer

So then question becomes; what death and marriage records exist to help resolve the reason for the variation in records.

The 1942 obituary of Matthias states that he is the brother of both Mathilda Neubeck and Anna Seidler. This of course could mean half-brother to Mathilda but not stated.

1946 obituary; Matilda E. Neubeck wife of late Nicholas C. states she is the sister of Mrs. Ann Seidler and the late Matt Knupfer (no half-sister mentioned). I was at the funeral held in the family home, 44 Lake Street, Angola, NY.
