Bio and Links
Bio Photo We completed a survey of all known cemeteries in McMinn County plus transcribed McMinn County death certificates from 1914-1955.
Surnames we are reseaching: Marvin's lineage = Templin, Click, Bryant, Sisk, Smith, Waddell, Gross. Samme's lineage = Carpenter, Simpson, Hutsell, Julian, Warren
Whenever we go out to fill a request, we try to take photos of a few of the surrounding burials. Never know when you might help someone find a lost relative. We also take tombstone pictures of any veterans we see, as we try to honor ALL VETERANS regardless of when they served.
A big "THANK YOU" to all the Find-A-Grave volunteers who have taken tombstone pictures for us.
We are always working on adding veterans to national cemeteries. Our way of honoring our veterans.
When asking for a memorial transfer, PLEASE use "Edit" then "Suggest A Correction" instead of posting message here. Thanks

Sounded like a good idea to me too. LOL You all do a lot for Find a Grave but the ultimate sacrifice is a bit too much. LOL

Shults family cemetery in Cosby
Thanks so much for your efforts to fulfill my photo requests for my relatives in the Shults family cemetery. It is against the law in most states to block access to a cemetery, even if it is on a person's private land. I removed the requests, but you might want to check with your state laws regarding access to cemeteries. Thank you again for you efforts. Nina

Request to transfer your Contributor status

My name is Fred W. Higgenbottom and I'm the son in law of the late James Edward Harrin and Catherine Idella Hensley Harrin who we buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park located in the city of Candler in Buncombe County North Carolina, USA.

I'm married to their oldest daughter Idella Higgenbottom and we would like to add some biographical information to the memorials for both of Idellas' parents. However, it's my current understanding that unless I'm the contributor of record I can't edit their memorials. Can you possibly transfer that ability to me?

You can contact me by looking up my contributor number on this site or contacting either my wife or myself directly for identity verification or if you have any other questions. We can be reached via e-mail at or by phone at (828) 808-6374. We live in Fletcher, NC 28732.

Thank you

Hi there. I just wanted to let you know (because I don't think the personal notes always come thru with the decline edits), that I agree with you, almost all "Mc" and "Mac" names should NOT have a space.

Unfortunately, the VA seems to add them more and more. Since the stone shows a space, I feel that according to Find A Grave rules about the last name matching the stone exactly, I need to leave it that way.

I've even written the VA asking them to stop this practice. (Needless to say, I haven't heard back from them.)

Having been in the military, I'm familiar with how they do many of their forms and I'm sure the name forms for the stones are "blocked" - 1 letter per block - and families leave a space in order to show the transition from lower to upper case. That then gets translated to the stone carver as "leave a space".

I'm of Irish descent and this new practice really irritates me. I liken it to misspelling the surname on purpose (or it's just due to general ignorance).

Ok, whew! I'm done venting. I hope you understand.

Best regards,
