Happy to have been married (1954) to my high school sweetheart for 61 years ), mother of three handsome sons, and grandmother to five. Have a degree from San Jose State University + 30 units. Prior to living in CA, spent growing-up years in S IL. As I once said in one of my applications to DAR, I knew my ancestors intimately. They were not just names, but as real to me as they could be under the circumstances, having five generations in one little country cemetery,( including my parents) that we walked to often from Grandparent"s farm. So far, I have documented lineal descent from FIVE Patriots with the DAR. Having FIVE grandchildren, they each got a Grandfather when I enrolled them in CAR. The relatives I've met in Somerset Cty PA on many visits there are truly appreciated. Amazing how many family names in Berlin PA and surrounding area are in Jackson Cty IL. Amazing also, to know how these families traveled such great distances at great peril....no roads or points of reference, with danger lurking all around. It has been said my Gr Gr Grandmother, Mary Gertrude Will Kimmel, came to IL holding the hand of a small child, carrying a baby, and pregnant with one. Where would we be as a family? Where would we be as a country, but for the sacrifices and the quest for something more?

I make every reasonable effort to avoid duplications but if there is any difference between the two memorials (different names, different years, missing years) the duplicate checking will not catch it. Whenever possible, I check the information I am submitting against state death indexes or the Social Security index (not useful for very early information) but that is no guarantee of accuracy, just that I have a source for the information submitted. Interesting to note not all contributors stick to the rigid stated policy re: transfering. Case in point, one such person states they will transfer person related to you or a good friend, distant, 2,3,or 9th cousin removed!! There are times when it would be productive to make a transfer out of the bounds.
