I've walked many graveyards, seeing stones in bad shape, and wondered what would happen to them as time marched on. This site is a wonderful way to preserve, if not the actual stone, at least a replica by photograph for the future.
If related and can enhance memorial by adding additional information, please request transfer, stating your relationship. No transfers for collection of a particular family name. If you request transfer, be sure you are committed to a lifetime of maintaining the memorial. Sadly, a few of my older transfers are maintained by contributors who no longer respond.
When sending information to add, include verifiable source. Edits will be verified before being accepted. With quick edits, this is still important so unless evident on memorial, please use the other suggestion and include source. Online trees, such as ancestry's, and family reports are not valid sources unless sources are noted.
I no longer add dates of birth calculated from age at death unless a photo of the stone is legible. (I got caught on a couple bad transcriptions which threw off the calculated birthdate).
Links will not be made to memorial in unknown cemeteries.
If you have taken better gravestone photos that what I've posted, please post yours and send a message.
I may try to contact contributors if I question an edit. For those who hide themselves completely by not showing email or allowing comments, my only choice is to decline and hope they resubmit with additional information.
Let me know if you have any questions on my listings - I love a good genealogy search and will try to help if possible!
RE: Isabelle Headings edit Thanks for questioning this. Isabelle was indeed married to a Rudy. However they were divorced for a long time. She never remarried and must have taken back her maiden name. Her husband raised the children. I haven't seen any of her children in a few years. It's possible they didn't want the Rudy name on her tombstone even though she is buried with her oldest daughter who took her in when she had no where else to go. Let's just leave the memorial as it is. Blessings, Mary
RE: Betty Mullen edit This is my great grandmother and her birth name was Starner. But she was adopted by the Christman family as a toddler when her mother died and her father remarried. So her full name was Kathryn Mary Starner Christman Mullen. Whew !! That's about it. Thank you.
# 95592276 Mullen This is my g-g-grandfather and his name was D'Lafayette Mullen (notice the apostrophe.) Even though his headstone says D.Lafayette Mullen, it was in fact, D'Lafayette Mullen. He was named after the famous French military officer, Marquis de Lafayette, who fought for the U.S. in the Revolutionary War. Thank you.
RE: George Westhafer edits Thank you for your quick response and for all the memorials you have added to F-A-G. I don't know what is on the actual tombstone. My evidence is all circumstantial using city directories, marriage record, and census. The only "George" D. Westhafer I have found in that time period in that location was a Marriage Record in Family Search: Pennsylvania, County Marriages, 1885-1950: Reference ID Pg. 153. The transcription shows GEORG D. BUT the photocopy of the original doc. clearly shows GEARY D:
1) Geary D. Westhafer, Age 24, (birth yr 1868) carpet weaver, married Lena M. Sheets, 27 Dec. 1892, Carlisle, Pennsylvania; parents names, Emanuel and Sallie Westhafer. 2) 1880 Census York Co., PENN, p. 203B: Sarah Westhafer, Widow, includes son, GEARY Westhafer, age 14 (birth yr 1866). 3) 1900 Census. 1900 Census, Carlisle, Ward 2, Cumberland Co., PENN, p. 2A, Lena M. Westhafer, age 36, WIDOW, is living with her parents, Edwin F. and Belinda 4) Harrisburg, Penn, City Directories: 1907-1914 list Lena M. Westhafer, (Wid. Geary D).
I submit the time line for all these pieces fit the "George" D. Westhafer in Old Graveyard Cemetery at Carlisle. Thanks, S. Widmayer, #48031917
