I first discovered this site when I was researching descendants through one of the proven "royalty" lines. I was interested in finding where some of these individuals were buried and was hoping to visit England in the near future. |
My England trip has not panned out yet, but I did discover that I liked this site due to the fact that an individual could be personalized by adding photos, taking pictures of headstones, and adding bios. I felt this somehow draws you in closer to the person. I love the fact that you can leave notes also.
I have told everyone that I know about this site and I and some friends have been doing all we can to document some of our local cemeteries. We have completed our local cemeteries and have expanded into some of our surrounding communities. We have met some very nice people due to this project. We also post all of the local obits to FAG if the obit states which cemetery they are located in.
We also volunteered to put out flags on Memorial Day and Veteran's Day. It only takes a few hours, and, let's face it, some of these guys can use the help. They are always so grateful, and the ceremonies are always beautiful. I recently moved away from this area, so I can no longer help with this effort. This makes me sad....
I would also like to thank the volunteers who take time to take pictures of headstones for me at cemeteries that I will probably never get to see. Recently, I found where one of my fathers relatives was buried, and a volunteer took a picture of the grave. I do appreciate each and every one of you!
I encourage everyone to adopt a cemetery, scour the local papers for obits, and tell all their friends and neighbors about this site. Everyone benefits!
P.S. If anyone knows of a person who should be added to my virtual cemeteries, please let me know.

You don't know me, but I would like to talk to you about Clay. I should have been there that night. In his place. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org, I know this message sounds strange and it's out of the blue, I apologize for waiting so long. I hope this message reaches you.

Thank you for the transfer!

All I can do is check Ancestry. I found a maiden name for Etta and parents for Wm. and Etta I think. With more effort you might be able to link them to their parents and children.

Diana, I was Shirley's main cook for a number of yrs, I worked with her almost 10 yrs. I stayed because I loved her and she was the best Boss I ever had, she was also my Friend, when I lost my family in 2002, my world was over, and Shirley and Peggy stepped in to do what they could, it did not help me, but they tryed, I was too sick. They just really did not know what to do with me. That is the 1st time I ever seen Shirley or Peggy not know what to do! She always knew what to do! But this time, I feel she was crushed right along side me and she just could not find a way to help, but I knew she wanted to! I know she loved me, my Mother and Shirley are both named Shirley and born on the same day, I have always thought of Shirley as a 2nd Mother. She was so kind to me, I remember 1 day she came to my house and just held me for hours while I cryed, she never said 1 word, she just let me cry hard, she just held me, I will never forget that act of kindness, never. I had stopped eating, I got down to 70 pounds and I had to stop working, Shirley kept me on as long as she could, she had to let me go and I know she had to think of Jolly Cone. I am grateful for knowing her, working for her, she taught me how to cook really good, I miss her Joke of the day, she always had a new one! She was my Boss, than she became my friend, and then like a Mother. This world has changed since Shirley has left us, it's just not the same anymore without her in it, I for myself miss her Oh so very much, and Thank you so very much for adding This very Special Lady to FG, Everyone should know how wonderful she truly was, Thank you DB.
Thank you so much for adding the obituaries for some of the memorials in Union Cemetery in Bakersfield California.
It really helps give the story of their life, and the family information is irreplaceable. This is a great service that you are doing !!! Gail Knight
