"Those who spend their time looking for the faults in others, Usually make no time to correct their own."|
Missing my son, Mark Allen Israels. II.
November 20, 1988
July 6, 2012
Losing a child is the most horrific pain one will ever feel.
The "Hillside Cemetery" in Reno was my motivation for Find A Grave. I had been a resident of Reno for 20 years before I knew of its existence. I finally found where the Hillside Cemetery was located and when I went there I was so appalled, outraged and shocked at the condition of the final resting place for many of Washoe County's finest citizens.
I started researching the cemetery online and found a survey prepared by Dolores Samuels Young and Mildred Chandler Pressell, back in 1955. Thank God, these ladies took the time to record all of the headstones that were legible at that time. Without their survey who knows how many people would have been forgotten.
I try everyday to find some little piece of information for the people buried in the Hillside Cemetery.
I try to post all information I find on a person, I believe it's sharing not stealing, especially if I take the time to research the information I find. Not everybody has the means to find the same information. I hate to think that a picture I found in a yearbook, or in a library and didn't share might have been a relative's only chance of seeing it. I'm forever grateful to others who shared pictures of my family with me. I also post obituaries especially from the 1800's. I think people like to see them. With that being said, I hope you see me as a contributor who wants to help in every way possible.
May God bless you and keep you safe in his loving arms.
Please be honest with me, if I entered a memorial and it was a family member of yours I am so willing and understanding to transfer them to you, but, please don't send me messages telling me I duplicated the memorial that you entered when it clearly shows that I entered mine in 2007 and you entered yours in 2010. Just say hey when I first started on Find A Grave I didn't realize you could transfer memorials over and I wanted to be the owner so I duplicated the memorial. It's not about numbers so I would've gladly transferred ownership over. But, don't try to be dishonest about it. I am always willing to transfer family.

I am a Vermont Civil War buff, and am presently working on a project to identify the last resting places of many of our "Old Soldiers" that had ties to Vermont. i am asking you if I may use the photo you contributed to the memorial page of Henry Hogan, to post on the Vermont Civil War site? ( www.vermontcivilwar.org)> I may discover others that you have taken of soldiers with Vt. ties. I have lots to find. may I use those too?
You will receive credit for any photo used that's yours.
Thank you for your consideration.

You are welcome. My philosophy is much like yours about "remembering" by honoring the legacies of those who have come before us. Our area is so rich in historical locales. Nice to have made contact with you. Thanks for all your many contributions as well! Valarie

You are a truly special person and I appreciate you so much...thank you and know that there are many more who appreciate your kindness as well...
I hope a lot of folks say thank you for what you do. It does my heart good to search and find my Dad's name listed. I've never missed anyone as much as I miss this good man. Thank you.

Hi Mark's Mom,
I was excited to discover your entry for Capt Johann "John" Gooding (1839-1897)!! Thank you so much for adding it!!
In your entry, #46820094 states that 'Johann Gottang' was born in Rehlingen, Saarland, Germany and his birth record is located there. How can I contact #46820094 to find out more about the birth record and it's location?
I appreciate your help!
