I have been doing genealogy for close to 40 years. I originally started for my daughter. We moved back to Paragould, Ar. where her dad's family was from and she had no one to connect to. I did his genealogy to find relatives in the area so she could feel like she was a part of this community. It was wonderful.

Back then all we had was written recorded history. As genealogy became popular, people started transcribing all those old records into books. I relied heavily on the books that people wrote and spending hours in our courthouse digging through old papers.

With the coming of the computers and internet, the whole world of genealogy has opened up. And that is when I began to research my own family. I am from Pennsylvania and then New Jersey. And now I can find all my family online. I grew up in a family were no one talked about the distant family. We were a close family, but ancient relatives weren't the topic of discussions. But occasionally a name would be mentioned (in my dad's family. The Cannon/Bell family)and I guess my brain tucked those names away, which has made my search much easier. Families from the Cannons are: Cannon, McMonigle(all spellings), McMenamin, Sweeny, McNelis, Ward and many more. Bell, Kennedy, Brennan, Gallagher, Heffner, and a whole lot more.

My mom's family (Bera and Perkosky) were much harder. Grandpop was from Poland and was angry with the communists for "stealing" the money he sent his family back home, so he just wouldn't talk about it. My mom knew very little about them. It's been a struggle, but I found them. Polish research is not easy. Pennsylvania death certificates have been a blessing. But all those people were from other countries and the census takers wrote what they heard. My Perkosky family ended up in one census as Berowski. I have trained my brain to sound out names in a Polish accent. The families are: Bera, Zelenack, Bagiotti, Yusko, Kocar, Palko and more. Perkosky, Rogusky, Janunski, Agresta and Suida and more.

While helping my daughter find her family living here, we also spent lots of time walking cemeteries. No digital cameras then, so I never took photos. And now, I no longer have time to just walk the cemeteries. I wish I had back then though. So many kind people did photograph cemeteries here and have kindly transferred some of our relatives memorials to me.

I have not created any memorials yet, that are not from our family, so I am a little hesitant to transfer graves. But, you can always ask. If I have a distant relatives grave, I probably won't feel the need to keep it to myself.

You can ask me to take photos for you of any cemeteries in Greene Co., AR. I don't mind. And if we do share a relative, and I have photos of them, I will gladly share those with you, as well as any information you might need.
