Bio

I've been interested in genealogy for many years. After I retired in 1985, my husband and I made many trips to Virginia and Pennsylvania searching for information on our families. Now I can sit at my computer and find most of the same information; although walking through cemeteries where ancestors are buried and going through old courthouse records was worth the trips. Now that I'm 90 and can't walk as well as I used to, I'm grateful for the computer.

My husband died in 2008 and is buried in Sunset Memorial Park in South Charleston, WV. I have been looking up obituaries on those buried in Sunset and adding their names, if they are not already listed. If I have listed anyone you are related to or want to manage, just let me know and I'll transfer the names. Just click on the Edit button.

If you see any errors I've made (fact or typos), please let me know, I will appreciate it.

DEAR ANCESTOR,
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.
