I've been interested in genealogy for many years. After I retired in 1985, my husband and I made many trips to Virginia and Pennsylvania searching for information on our families. Now I can sit at my computer and find most of the same information; although walking through cemeteries where ancestors are buried and going through old courthouse records was worth the trips. Now that I'm 84 and can't walk as well as I used to, I'm grateful for the computer.|
My husband died in 2008 and is buried in Sunset Memorial Park in South Charleston, WV. I have been looking up obituaries on those buried in Sunset and adding their names, if they are not already listed. If I have listed anyone you are related to or want to manage, just let me know and I'll transfer the names. Just click on the Edit button.
If you see any errors I've made (fact or typos), please let me know, I will appreciate it.
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

|Michael Shaffer||Nela Ingram Obituary|
Thanks for the obituary of Nela. I added it to her memorial.
|Joe Smith||Thank you!|
Thank you for adding Caroline and Thomas to Find A Grave. You made it possible to bring Caroline together with her family. Thank you for transferring these two memorials to me.
|Anita Chapman||Sarah Bailey Dilley|
Hi Dolores! Thanks for transferring Sarah's memorial to me. Totally unnecessary, but I appreciate it just the same. I'll take good care of it!
|Anita Chapman||Sarah Bailey Dilley|
Thanks so much for creating the memorial for Sarah Dilley. I had been looking for one just a couple weeks ago, apparently RIGHT before you created it. I'm going to try to find a photo of her to add to the memorial. She was one of my best friends in high school.
|Robin L. Parrish Wilkinson- Bostic||Arnold Joseph Bostic|
I want to thank you so much for the transfer of Arnold Joseph Bostic. And thank you for all the work you are doing on Find A Grave.
|Myra IV 💕||Amos Morton, Sunset Memorial Park|
I see you have an obituary for Amos Morton, Son of Amos Morton & Elizabeth Sleigh... Amos's sister, Sarah Morton Patrick is also buried there.
Their mother, Elizabeth Sleigh, remarried (John Morris) & is buried in Pennsylvania. But I haven't been able to figure out what happened to Amos Sr. (At least not for certain) Would you have any idea if perhaps he's also in Sunset?
God Bless you, dear

|Angie||Ora K Chittum|
In Ora's obit it states that the mother is Leah Emma Cobbs and under parents for Mother is listed as Lean Ann Weeks. I was wondering which Mother was right. Thank you Angie

Thank you for the photograph of my grandfather's grave. # 89207260 at Sunset Memorial.
I have never visited West Virginia and this is the first time I have ever seen his marker. Grandpa was married several times so it was interesting to see the woman he was last married to being buried beside him. She is the same woman who called herself "Grandma Hill" in a very early birthday card to me.
I'm glad he is not alone, that he is with a woman who loved him right through his passing and to the end of her days.
