Bio and Links
Bio Photo Retired university teacher and librarian with interest in Civil War burials and burial practices. Also undertaking to photograph all cemeteries in Erath County, TX, and surrounding counties, then to enter the tombstone information into the database. Many older tombstones are in such shape as to be illegible, so corrections to bad or missing biographical information is welcomed.

Please make requests for additions, corrections, links, etc., directly from the memorials' "edit" feature rather than here. I'll get to them much faster. (Transfers to direct descendants, please, and not in bulk lots!)

How is the best way to add an obituary for Opal McCleskey ? I got one off ancestry. Oddly enough, I think I remember attending her funeral with my mother & grandmother back in 1973. I recently found some awesome portraits her at a family reunion. She is my 1st cousin, twice removed. I looked up her obit and she had quite a teaching career and I'd like to add an obit to her page. Thanks, AKC

Ellen's maiden name is Ellen Blanche Hassler. She is the daughter of David Medicus Hassler and Mary Blanche Clark.

Ellen is the widow of Henry Countes Frey and the mother of Henrietta Frey who died in 1949. William S Lane is the informant on Henrietta's death certificate.

I'm new to this group and not sure what you are suggesting. That photo is of one of the entries to the cemetery, but there are also photos of the headstones as well as those of my parents' cremations at the foot of my grandmother.

48th Alabama Inf
Just started researching my family and found that my 3rd great grandfather was William Haynes Partain. He served in the 48th and was home on furlough when the surrender happened. He passed in 1915 and was buried in Texas.

Thank you for creating a pictorial memorial for my great uncle. He never married and was a post WWI casualty from injuries sustained during combat.
Erath County is an epicenter for my Grandmother's family history, so thank you again for caring enough to document those wonderful old cemeteries!
