Coming from a small town and moving to the Empire State was no big deal for me because I had visited New York many times before making the move, the move exposed me to the many cultures, lifestyles and attitudes. These are just a few of the things that helped me to mature. New Yorkers seem to have had a different life style, but soon I became a New Yorker. Before moving to New York, I discovered I had a passion for music (have a musical love affair with Motown)and an interest in famous people and the history of famous people. At the age of 16 I began my own scrapbook of famous entertainers using the different magazines to gather information. Some forty years later I began putting together another scrapbook "Memorials". At this time I discovered "Find A Grave", Find A Grave helped to expand my knowledge on the history of famous people. Through my travels, I have visited many famous grave sites; have even gone out of my way searching for famous grave sites. At this point I am entering family members and friends in Find A Grave, I enjoy writing biographies, famous and non-famous. By the way, I no longer live in New York, I went from the Empire State of the North to the Empire State of the South. When I moved South, I had to work. I am now at a point in my life and I don't have to work. I am retired, yeah!!! It is such a joy.|

|Candace Hill||Alain LeRoy Locke|
Just an FYI for you, a grave is in the making for Professor Locke:
Interment Ceremony for Alain Leroy Locke (PA and Hertford 1907)
In 2007, the Association of American Rhodes Scholars conceived and planned a symposium in conjunction with Howard University on the centenary of the election of Alain Leroy Locke as a Rhodes Scholar from Pennsylvania. We conducted archival research at Rhodes House, Oxford and at the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center at Howard University, which resulted in "Alain Locke at Oxford: Race and the Rhodes Scholarships," The American Oxonian, Vol. XCIV, No. 2 (Spring 2007) by Jack C. Zoeller (NY & University 1972). Another unexpected outcome of the research was in learning that Locke's cremated remains were still in the custody of the University.
From this discovery arose the commitment to arrange for a proper interment for this eminent American scholar. With the financial support from African-American Rhodes Scholars, we have purchased a burial plot at Congressional Cemetery, Washington, D.C. and commissioned a memorial headstone to honor our distinguished predecessor. The interment ceremony will occur on Saturday, September 13, 2014, and we attach an invitation for you to join us in honoring and finally laying to rest Alain Leroy Locke.

You're very welcome - I am a great fan of Nikki's parents, and felt that if her page has that sponsorship heart, perhaps more people will remember to look it up...I've read quite a bit about Nikki, as well, due to her diagnosis and my own son Gannon being autistic. Take Care and have a good day - Hugs, RCP and Gannon Blue

Sorry for any delay but I received no email of your request and just saw your message and it really is not making any sense to me I pasted a copy of your message below and it looks as though find a grave has evidently deleted my memorial # so I can only hope whatever it was you found wrong has been eliminated.
RE: Memorial# 115749877
I am surprised Find A Grave has not done so, normally they do so automatically when a memorial is given the "Famous" status.
