re: Jacob DeHaven
Done...on and off I've been working on identifying those that were killed at the battle whose remains are entombed at the monument. There's not much out there to go on, but there is a book which looks like it might help. But I have to go to another county to a library to get the information.

Re:Jacob DeHaven
There was no info on the monument, and thanks for the clarification. And yes, I did get it off of ancestry. I will post your information in the bio for Jacob and hopefully others will catch on.

RE: Sarah Jobes

Thank you for the prompt reply. The census info you sent is in my direct family line. I came to the same conclusion as you that since no other Jobes were in the immediate area at that time, this is probably the correct Jobes family (as far as Sarah is concerned).

I was just wondering how the Jobes name even entered into the record as being the maiden name of Sarah Dehaven to begin with -it had to come from somewhere.

I noticed that Jehu was a member of the Co. I, Fifth W. Va. Cav. I have done extensive research and written several papers concerning this interesting unit. If you have any questions concerning this Company, please let me know.

Sarah Jobes Dehaven

I am a long-time Jobes researcher and I just came across your Jehu Dehaven entry on Findagrave. I believe that this Sarah is also related into my Jobes line from the California, Pa. area. I just have one question -What is the source for Sarah's maiden name being Jobes?

I have been stuck on this Sarah for 30 years now and any help would be most appreciated. You may contact me via findagrave or email me directly at

DeHavens in VA
Hi again Joe (we corresponded abt DeHavens; also about the Custard family up here in Pike Co PA)

This lady, Leslyn Lang, did up a lovely photo of a Pike Co CW vet buried down south for me & I noticed DeHaven was one of her family surnames. These folks in her managed memorials:

DeHaven, David 66005149
b. Nov. 11, 1831 d. May 31, 1856,Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Siler, Frederick County, Virginia, USA

DeHaven, Elizabeth Light 66001979, b. Sep. 13, 1801 d. Mar. 18, 1878 Chestnut Grove Cemetery
Siler Frederick County, Virginia, USA

DeHaven, James W. 66002196, b. Apr. 22, 1827 d. Dec. 9, 1891 Pine Grove United Methodi...
De Haven, Frederick County, Virginia, USA

DeHaven, Rhoda 66001691, b. Dec. 28, 1824 d. Sep. 11, 1904,Pine Grove United Methodi..., De Haven,Frederick County, Virginia, USA

DeHaven, West 66001837, b. Feb. 14, 1796 d. Jun. 18, 1870, Gainesboro Methodist Ceme..., Gainesboro
Frederick County, Virginia, USA

I found this online, haven't a clue how accurate it is:
William DeHaven, son of Peter and Abigail (West) DeHaven

WILLIAM5 DEHAVEN (PETER4, WILLIAM3, PETER2, EVERT1) was born 30 Nov 1769 in Pennsylvania, USA, and died Abt. 1800 in Frederick County, Virginia, USA. He married SARAH DOSTER 05 Jan 1792 in Frederick County, Virginia, USA, daughter of THOMAS DOSTER and MARY. She was born 1768, and died 25 Sep 1838 in Frederick County, Virginia, USA.

Do you know anything abt VA DeHavens? are we all cousins? If so, please drop her a line!

Best wishes, once again,
Jane "ATJ"
