LATEST UPDATE FOR JAX NATIONAL CEMETERY Photos

Next Visit: I'm going to try to get out there by Nov 30th. I know it's been a while, but some urgent activities in my personal life have kept me occupied.

Most Recent Visit: Saturday, May 12th, 2018. All photo requests were taken, cropped and uploaded.

From previous visits, we took a lot of photos in all of the sections, especially where I see that a loved one has brought fresh flowers or if I see that someone has recently been interred. I'm still working them to get them cropped and uploaded. Lots of work to keep me busy. I thought I would have been able to get more uploads done while on surgery leave, but, that just didn't happen. Mother nature was messin' with my hacienda and I have to deal with that too. soooo... TTFN, my friends :)

I try to get out there every couple of weeks regardless of how many requests are pending because there are so many markers without photos.

If you want a retake of a photo I did or the originals emailed to you, send me a note.

I have transplanted to Jacksonville, Florida after my tour in the Marine Corps. I enjoy working my family history and helping others with theirs. Our family has been working on it since I was 7 years old, so, I was hanging out in cemeteries for a really, really, long time from a very young age. We even used to play a game called "Ghost in the Graveyard!"

I'm not into racking up counts on here, but if I was, my count for corrections submitted would be over a zillion, but Find-A-Grave doesn't count corrections submitted. So, if I happen to create a record for your family member, I'll be happy to transfer.

I live close to the Jacksonville National Cemetery and want to make it a point to be a volunteer for photo requests out there. I have a nice basket of 'All American" flowers to place next to the grave for the photos that can be included with the requests. I just like it to be special for them.

My photo's may be freely copied for personal use. If for Ancestry.com - please be kind and refer to the entire memorial for your loved one... it's a complete package

Happy Hunting :)

MISSING IN AMERICA

A Beautiful poem I found on another profile...

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiselled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
it is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

Now, on the brighter side...

On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts. "One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me," said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence.

Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, "One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me ...."

He just knew what it was. He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along.

"Come here quick," said the boy, "you won't believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls!"

The man said, "Beat it kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk." When the boy insisted though, the man hobbled slowly to the cemetery.

Standing by the fence they heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me."

The old man whispered, "Boy, you've been tellin' me the truth. Let's see if we can see the Lord...?" Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord.

At last they heard, "One for you, one for me. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence and we'll be done...."

They say the old man had the lead for a good half-mile before the kid on the bike passed him.

(Everyone MUST have a sense of humor, especially when working in genealogy)
