I have been doing genealogy research on my family for 30+ years and have really enjoyed learning about my ancestors. Their stories are incredible and sometimes surprising. It is always interesting to find the real story vs. the family story.
RE: Goad Family Thank you for the offer of help, but I'm still in the very beginning of this journey, but may I call upon you for some information about the Goads if I come up empty handed? Just curious, would we be really distant cousins? Grace Goad was my grandfather's mother until she decided she didn't like the wanderings of my great Granddaddy. Supposedly she put her 3 children (my grandfather, his sister and brother) on a train after my great Granddaddy left for parts unknown. I'm not all that sure where they ended up, but I did find out later he married 2 other women at different times and the last wife left him high and dry in the state of Florida which is where my family ended up. My Grandfather went to work at the Miami Hearld Newspaper as their National Advertising Chief Editor and he was really big in the Orchid Society down there, as well as a Master Mason and Shriner. He saw a picture of a girl on the desk of the Manager for the Herald (his niece) and told him he was going to marry that gal and sure enough (after numerous letters) he won her over and married her.
What I find fascinating is all the twists and turns and what ifs, which leads us here today.
Thank you for your interest and I'll be in touch if I have any questions.
Goad Family This is so fascinating, I'm looking for Goad Ancestors to follow for my DAR application too. My family connection is through Grace Goad, my Grandfather's mother. My Aunt, who is still living, was able to provide me with Grace's father's name, which I had wrong when I first started looking into our family, but I have since corrected it on my Family's Tree. If you are on Ancestry.com, you can view my family via my family name: Rawlins.
Herndon family, Old Elgin Cem., Elgin, OK Thank you for your nice note about the Herndon photos I took. There were two other burials in the Herndon lot: Lorene Smith and Wanda Carlson, both for which I added photos.
Miera ps Oh yeah now I remember this one, I've driven out there too... According to http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nma/bernalillo/bemiera.htm when it was surveyed in 1971 only six burials were marked. I'm removing my request since it's such a hard find. Thank you!
