Bio and Links
Bio Photo Transfers: I will transfer ownership to direct descendants within four generations - the same as Find A Grave guidelines. Otherwise, I'm happy to add to memorials and make links, just click on the "Edit" tab on the top right of the memorial, then click on "Suggest a correction or provide additional information". Be sure to give me the other person's ID number when requesting links.

One line of my ancestors (CROSE) lived in Tippecanoe Co., IN in the 1820s. Some of their cousins lived in the next county to the south, Boone, and some south of that in Hendricks Co. I live in northern Hendricks Co., and am taking photos mostly in Boone and Hendricks, including the older, more difficult to read stones. Hopefully, these photographs will be around longer than the headstones. Many are on the verge of not being readable - even with the sun at a good angle and using tricks to bring out the text.

Since I've been doing genealogy research for a number of years, I can see a real benefit in seeing headstones, rather than relying on a transcription. To me, the important thing is to be able to read the inscription (names & dates, child of ...), but not really the verse below it. It's also important to know who is buried next to whom. I'll mention that if I notice a connection.

Cemeteries that are completed - meaning that I photographed everything and have posted all that was readable. Other transcriptions may have more names.
Beck - Bethel (Boone Co.) - Bethel (52nd St Indy) - Browns Wonder - Jones
Lowry -Macedonia - Mintonye - Mt Union
Mt. Zion - North Branch - Oak Hill (Sect 1-29, 34N & 34S) - Pleasant Hill (Indy)
Pleasant View (Dover) - Poplar Grove - Prebster - Old Union Church - Richland - Robison - St. Malachy West - Salem
Sparks - Taylor - Trotter (I can only find 33 of the 64 markers) - Weaver - Zionsville

I currently use a 10M Canon Powershot camera which will take pictures at 3648 x 2736 pixels. Normally I reset the resolution to 2272 x 1704 and then on the computer, especially with worn headstones, I turn up the contrast 20-30%, and lower the brightness 5-10% and keep the compression at 98 to 99%. When I started posting for Find a Grave the file size limit was 250 KB, then 350, 500, 750, 2000 3000 and now 8000 KB. I use photo editing software that I downloaded for free - it's much better than what Canon or Olympus gives you with their camera. With Photoscape I know the file size before I save the file.

Clean up work in Bethel Hill
Marc:

I just wanted to thank your for all the fine work you are doing for Find A Grave. I am currently doing some clean up work on he memorials that I have created in the Bethel Hill Cemetery which involves adding additional information and linking families together. I am sure that I am making sure your 'Edit' tab does not stay empty. I respect the work that you do, and I know that others appreciate what you are doing also.

Keep up the great work!

Thank you Marc for taking a picture of the gravestone because my grandma was buried with my grandfather and I couldn't find her! I am so happy now because we live in NJ and my sister and kept talking how sad we are that we don't know where grandma was buried! We are coming to visit her gravesite soon. We miss her sooo much! You just made me so happy and now I where to go!

Anna Dorothea Schalk
The Find A Grave entry for Anna Dorothea Schalk reports her maiden name as Sore. This appears to be an input error. Her maiden name was Anna Dorothea Schorr (German version) or Anna Dorothea Shore as reported in "A History and Biographical Cyclopaedia of Butler County, Ohio" on page 369.
Thank you for the great work that you do in furthering the pursuit of family history.

RE: Charles D Spinning #133601165
Thank you so much! Charles' marriage records show Margaret Emma Worley as his mother but the death cert shows Elizabeth Crowthers...wonder if his father, William remarried?? Guess I will keep searching to figure this out. I do appreciate your help. Thanks again!

Charles D Spinning #133601165
This is my husband's 2nd Great Grand Uncle. I noticed in the bio that Elizabeth Crowthers is listed as his mother. I'm curious about the citation and where it might have come from? My husband's 2nd Great Grand Mother had written out their family tree and mentioned that Margaret Emily "Emma" Worley was their mother (I have found a marriage cert for this). Was their father married more than once? I'm having difficulty finding information out on the Spinning side. Would you happen to have any other information to share?
Thank you,
Gail M Benter Kraus

Hello Mark, I wonder what is your policy on allowing your photos to be attached to trees at Ancestry.com with credit and your permission. You've got a nice of of Henry T. Sample's stone at Springvale in Lafayette I'd like to use.
