Transfers: I will transfer ownership to direct descendants within four generations - the same as Find A Grave guidelines. Otherwise, I'm happy to add to memorials and make links, just click on the "Edit" tab on the top right of the memorial, then click on "Suggest a correction or provide additional information". Be sure to give me the other person's ID number when requesting links.|
One line of my ancestors (CROSE) lived in Tippecanoe Co., IN in the 1820s. Some of their cousins lived in the next county to the south, Boone, and some south of that in Hendricks Co. I live in northern Hendricks Co., and am taking photos mostly in Boone and Hendricks, including the older, more difficult to read stones. Hopefully, these photographs will be around longer than the headstones. Many are on the verge of not being readable - even with the sun at a good angle and using tricks to bring out the text.
Since I've been doing genealogy research for a number of years, I can see a real benefit in seeing headstones, rather than relying on a transcription. To me, the important thing is to be able to read the inscription (names & dates, child of ...), but not really the verse below it. It's also important to know who is buried next to whom. I'll mention that if I notice a connection.
Cemeteries that are completed - meaning that I photographed everything and have posted all that was readable. Other transcriptions may have more names.
Beck - Bethel (Boone Co.) - Bethel (52nd St Indy) - Browns Wonder - Jones
Lowry -Macedonia - Mintonye - Mt Union
Mt. Zion - North Branch - Oak Hill (Sect 1-29, 34N & 34S) - Pleasant Hill (Indy)
Pleasant View (Dover) - Poplar Grove - Prebster - Old Union Church - Richland - Robison - St. Malachy West - Salem
Sparks - Taylor - Trotter (I can only find 33 of the 64 markers) - Weaver - Zionsville
I currently use a 10M Canon Powershot camera which will take pictures at 3648 x 2736 pixels. Normally I reset the resolution to 2272 x 1704 and then on the computer, especially with worn headstones, I turn up the contrast 20-30%, and lower the brightness 5-10% and keep the compression at 98 to 99%. When I started posting for Find a Grave the file size limit was 250 KB, then 350, 500, 750, 2000 3000 and now 8000 KB. I use photo editing software that I downloaded for free - it's much better than what Canon or Olympus gives you with their camera. With Photoscape I know the file size before I save the file.

|David Shaw||Grover Cleveland Thompson|
I left an edit on the birthdate of Grover Cleveland Thompson. His obituary is in the Jamestown Press, Jamestown, Indiana. Listed on Friday, May 21, 1902 (page 1). The stone was very difficult to read, however, he was 17 when he fell ill and died at the home of his uncle, George Washington Shaw, Jamestown, IN.

Would you please remove the picture of the headstone of my Mom and Dad's? The stone is to be cleaned and the other picture there is more like what it should be. Thank you.

Do you have an actual picture of the headstone for the above grave ID? This is Susan Ann Doty. Do you have any other additional information on her? She is my 2nd great grandmother. If you could, I would love to have a picture of her headstone added and where additional information about her may be found. Thanks,

Thanks. I recalled that you were a descendant of the Crose line.

Thank you, Mark, for responding to my suggestion about the correct spelling of her name. =)
My name is Sarah Mann and my father was Richard Allen Mann and his Memorial# 98404593. Would you mind transferring the management to me?
I would greatly appreciate it.

I found your posting of one of my Uncles, Gary Lee Doty. My mother was his sister Beverly Jean Doty. Have we already talked on here or Ancestry? I'm sorry if we have and I can't remember....how are you related to Gary/Beverly/me?
Do you have contact with Gary's wife Mary? If so could you send her my email: email@example.com and ask if she would send me her contact email?
I'm glad I found this tonight. My mom passed away about a year ago (Nov 16th) after living with us for a few years. She was on hospice care in our home for almost 2 years before she passed. I was her primary caregiver but my husband, brother Rick, were a great help.
Hope to hear from you soon.
I am in Sandy City, UT (in Salt Lake County)

|Jerry L Edwards||fast response|
Marc, thanks for the very fast response to my edit tabs yesterday.
I read your profile write-up, and I like it. Adjacent gravestones can be very helpful. Thanks.
A lot of us know about the sun angle and the problem waiting around for the sun to get just right. I'm trying an off-camera flash off to the side. And I'm probably not supposed to do this, but I use a Sharpie sometimes. When I see a gravestone that is almost gone, I feel justified in extraordinary measures before it is completely gone. I have watched one disappear in my lifetime...gone forever.
Thank you for providing all the corrections! I appreciate all of your hard work, both taking & adding photos, along with your meticulous attention to detail and accurate data for our deceased loved ones!
You and your work are appreciated by many!
