|Eighteen or nineteen years ago a friend told me she had a new hobby, genealogy, and how much fun she was having. I immediately contacted my mother who informed me that we owned three family Bibles. I have been deep into this ever since. I started with my mother's family in Loudoun County, VA. Her parents were third cousins, a fact she did not know. Of course I added my father's family, my husband's family, and both my daughter-in-law's and son-in-law's families. Then by adding wives, mothers, sisters, brothers, ancestors, descendants, I have ended up with a database of about 37,000. All are related to me or to someone I am related to. |
Most of my time has been spent in Loudoun County, Virginia. I wrote two books on Union Cemetery in Leesburg, a book on Monocacy Cemetery in Bealsville, Montgomery County, MD, Death Records of Fairfax County, VA, and co-authored books on the Death Records of Loudoun County, VA and Marriages after 1850 in Loudoun County, Va. I have also been involved in the preparation of Cemetery Books published by Thomas Balch Library. All of these books are available through Heritage Books.
I am more than happy to share any information I have. My cemetery pictures are there for anyone who needs them. They have been taken over the last 19 years. I will ask that you let me know if you are using a family picture because that means you are probably at least a cousin and I want to know you.
If you see errors, please let me know. Let's get all these people linked! But PLEASE everyone, use the Edit button on the memorial that needs changing! It takes about 2 minutes to make changes using that button. It can take 1/2 an hour or more to find the memorial you would like changed, if you don't use that button, and often I cannot be sure if I am looking at the correct person even then. In that case I may spend an hour or more looking. That takes away from someone else's time. Be fair!

|Beth M||Lynn Family|
Your profile mentions that you have spent a lot of time in Loudon County.
I have been unsuccessful in finding my Great Great Great Grandfather's grave site. He is Bushrod Washington Lynn's brother, Henry Clay Lynn, born 1856. He was born in Loudon County. His first wife was Jennie H Gardner Lynn. I tracked H. Clay to Richmond, VA area. But cannot seem to find him buried there.
Just wondering if you knew of any private cemeteries in the area. Perhaps on the Lynn farm there in Loudon?

Betty, thanks for the addition today on her husband. You are the best and we all thank you for the tremendous work you have done in the area. Your Union Cemetery books are well-worn here...what a great resource. Thank you ever so much.

As soon as I'm back at my computer! I'll also move the headstone, which does read "VanDevanter" with the A. Do you have the info I listed in his bio? If not, please feel free. Sorry for the mix up!

John Albert and Sara Holmes had a son William Henderson Van Sickler (1820-1893). William married Eunicey Coe. They had 10 children.

Thanks for making the updates to James' memorial. It was so good to finally locate him and reconnect him to his family.

|gentsia ||Samuel Cox|
Hi - Samuel Cox, b 1799, d 1873, is my paternal great-great grandfather. When I first started my genealogy, 12-13 years ago now, one of my visits was to the library in Leesburg. I simply could not find any information there. I still have not found any further back than Samuel. I am so pleased to have found his and his wife's resting places, as well as some of his family. Also, my line comes through his daughter, Mary E. "Maude" Cox, who married Wilmon P. Cole. Their daughter, Lucy Cole Keys, is my grandmother, who married Henry Armistead Keys. Their son Wilmon Pitmon Keys, 1886-1958, is my father. I had pretty much given up on the Samuel Cox end and now, of course, my mind is trekking back there. So much to find, so little time! The majority of my research, other than ancestry.com, on the Cox/Cole/Keys side has been done at RELIC at the Bull Run Library in Manassas. Thanks again for posting on find a grave. gentsia
