The name was originally O'Hanlon when they came from Ireland back in the 1700's, but in the early 1800's the Irish were being persecuted and folks dropped the "O" and "Mc" from their names so it wouldn't be so obvious that they were Irish. I have seen the name mispelled as Handlon and Handlawn thru the years, but those are incorrect.
The relatives in WV spell the name Hanlin--I think the Census takers had something to do with the spellings. Some branches still use O'Hanlon, but most dropped the "O".
I saw Mary's middle name as Ellen somewhere, but can't locate my source. Her mother's name is Mary Anne and her grandmother's maiden name is Nancy Ellen Cline, so Mary Ellen does sound reasonable.
You are probably related to my husband thru one side or the other. His mother's maiden name is Martin and her mother was a Joy. I saw some Haught names in your messages also and his other grandmother was a Haught.

Wondering if you are related to this family. I assure there is no "d" in our name. Her father is the older brother of my husband's great-grandfather, Felix Hanlon. Strange enough, Felix's son, Norman, married Bertha Rose Haught so my husband's paternal grandparents are named Hanlon and Haught and I did extensive research on them and published my findings back in 1995.
I am now researching the Joy family of Monroe and Washington Counties, OH and by coincidence, Mary Anne Joy married Rufus Hanlon and so there is a connection to my husband's mother's Joy family also.
Mary E. Hanlon Mead's parents are Rufus Hanlon and Mary Anne Joy for sure. They lived in Ohio, but Rufus died in a Confederate Prison in Tyler, TX on 19 Oct 1864 leaving Mary Anne with seven children ages 3 - 13. She remained in Ohio, but I can't find where Rufus is buried.
I thought Mary E and Samuel Mead were buried in Ohio, but after reading your info, I am still looking and if I find anything certain, will let you know.

If you will send me your email address I can give you the phone number of a cousin who has done extensive work on the family tree. As for the connection with Charles to Eunice as spouse I think that was done automatically by the findagrave site. She was never married. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org. Janice has been researching the family for several years and has a lot of info that should be of help to you. Darlene

|Pat Greathouse||Mack Greathouse`|
Received the message as to the name as it should be. This is my father in law and the name is correct as on the marker. He also had an uncle named McDonald Mansil Greathouse , but the name and dates are correct. Actually alot of the people called him Whitey for some reason from work and bars but family called him Mack to distinguish him from his uncle McDonald. Not sure where your infor is from but I have his birth certificate now he has a sone Robert L who is my husband. Asking Macks sister and she said never heard of the reference to the name you are referring to. I am on Ancestry.com with the entire tree if interested. Please let us know where infor was gotten from.

Noticed that you lacked the maiden names for Walter's wives' mothers.
Beulah Elizabeth Huber was the daughter of Sidney Huber and Della Gay Nutter.
Naomi Grace Rice was the daughter of Frank B. Rice and Martha Jane Cogar.
Hope this helps.

I belive the reason Marjorie and Argie didn't get married until 1968 is because he wasn't divorced from his wife Jessie Lewis until oct, 14, 1968 in Caldwell, North Carolina.
