Documenting and photographing cemeteries are activities that many contributors to this site enjoy doing. Some of us do it to help others, others want to create a historical record, and for some it's simply the outdoor enjoyment that walking cemeteries can provide. These are all valid reasons but at its core, this is just a hobby. |
I think that it's important to remember that every memorial represents somebody who was (and in many cases still is) loved and cherished by his/her family. And every family grieves the loss in their own way. Some are comforted by memorials and photos of the headstones of their loved ones, while others find such memorials or photos upsetting. I understand both viewpoints and believe that the wishes of a family should take precedence when it comes to memorializing a family member and documenting his/her final resting place.
Every family deserves the right to remember and honor their loved ones as they choose. Therefore, I try to be very respectful of the wishes of families when it comes to memorializing their loved ones and welcome input as to what they would like to see, or not
see, on the memorials that I manage.
