Bio and Links
Bio Photo Hi, I'm a San Diego County native. I enjoy both genealogy and photography. I really like this site. It helps with my genealogy and I also like to help others by fulfilling their photo requests.

Photos Posted & Requests Fulfilled:
Any photos I posted may be used by individuals for personal, private, noncommercial, not for profit use only. Any other use, please ask they are copyrighted. If you do use my photo, please credit me as the photographer and retain the copyright notice on it.

Memorials Posted:
If you have corrections or additions to any of the memorials I have posted, please don't hesitate to contact me via the Edit tab at the top right of the memorial. If you are related to any of them, I will gladly transfer management of the memorial to you.

My Genelogy:
Surnames I am researching are:
- Meserole, Maryott, Thomas, Deubler
- Ely, Lyman, Lathrop
- Valentine, Smith, Blyth, Blithe
Most of my relatives are from:
- Springville, Susquehanna, PA
- Brooklyn, Kings County, NY
- Camden, NJ

Contacting Me:
If it is a correction for a memorial I created, please use the Edit tab at the top right of that memorial to suggest a correction. Otherwise please leave Public Message below or send PM to SurrealImage on the forums. Do not use the Edit tab from one of my memorials to leave me a message about something unrelated to that memorial - doing so will cause it to be ignored.

Phony Cemeteries:
Remember folks - please do not add Phony cemeteries like "Unknown". There is a proper way to add unknown burials. Adding phony cemeteries is not only against the rules, but it clutters and confuses the system for others. See Findagraves FAQs for more information.

My husband's aunt died 23 Dec 1961 in El Cajon, San Diego, CA - she never remarried. I was looking for her husband's stone - I have come to understand that there isn't one for him. Thank you for all of your assistance.

RE: Mary Ella (Sperry) Dawson #156442263
D. Meserole,
I revised the top of Mary Ella's bio to include links to both Tom Dawson and son Ray, etc.

As compared to the photo you uploaded for Ray, I like them both so would you upload the 2nd photo to each? It would be nice to have the names over the headstones. As time goes by, I forget what was once obvious. I have added names to a PDF that I created of Mary Ella's bio.

On the photo taken from Ray's headstone, stepping back a bit could have made the adjacent markers for Magdich and Danzkay completely legible. I suspect as time goes by these are all going to be connected. The road appears to be two roads, one each way separated by a narrow strip of grass? From this photo, the graves appear to be closer together than I thought but you said about 50 feet in a prior message.

On the photo taken from Tom's headstone, I think I see some flowers in the background. Did you put them there to mark the graves of Mary Ella and Tom?

Thanks,
Del

When you realize that back in Dec, I didn't even know if a headstone existed, the most logical cemetery was Merced. When that failed, I re-assigned to Mount Hope because that is where her son was. Remarkable progress and thank you for the great photos.

When I read the caption about similar headstones with Tom, I started letting myself think Tom was her husband. Then I realized that her husband pre-deceased her by 19 years and that he was at Merced. Now you report that Tom and Mary Ella have the same set of surviving children. I missed it in the obit where it said she was survived by her husband Thomas when her 1st husband David Thomas Dawson died in 1946. I am beginning to wonder if she married the brother of her first husband? With 20 years she certainly had plenty of time for a 2nd marriage but not a 2nd set of kids. Possibly a mixture of kids and step-kids. Do you have an obit for Tom Dawson?

Also, there is a Margaret Larson that survived per the obit. Mary Ella and David Thomas had a daughter Margaret b1930 which would be 85 and could easily be living. However, when I zoom on the photo, I think it is a Larson headstone to the right of Mary Ella. Do you have a closer up showing the stones on either side of Mary Ella?

I will have to review the thought of a photo looking from Ray towards Mary Ella. What I like to do is edit the photos to make it easy to point out what one is trying to show on the photos as compared to foreground, center foreground, etc. I don't feel most people read the captions and you will see that I have added to the bio.

As an unrelated example, take a look at the 2nd photo on #58034015 and scroll down to the bottom of the bio where there are links to 37 interments in Lot 8079 with only four headstones representing 6 interments. I use the same photo with different captions for several of the 37 interments with more to do.

That's more than enough for a public message, much easier by email.

Yes the coincidences have been remarkable when you consider a 1955 death. I create memorial on Dec 28, someone else on Dec 29. Jerry H sends me image of obit which I upload shortly after and then transcribe followed by you sending the same transcription.

The images are always nice because they provide credibility but the transcriptions are much easier to read and can be found in search results. I normally edit the transcription to be more meaningful to non-local readers and replace "tomorrow" with a date, etc.

Sounds like confirmation that Mary Ella is buried at Mount Hope and a photo will soon be added which is great news.

When headstone is a flat stone, many times a photo showing the area, with some readily visible landmarks, helps others find in the future. It is good to have a artificial flower or something in the group / area photos as it makes it easy to tell which headstone is the interment of interest. If Mary and son are close enough, maybe two flowers or some other marker serves the purpose for both. Many times, I edit the photo to add identity when there are several family members in the same area.

On photo requests, when things aren't straight forward, I have a practice of including a separate section at the top of the bio that I update as information is received.

Thank you,
Del Gran

Mary Ella (Sperry) Dawson #156442263

If you check my message to you just below this one, you will find that I was questioning whether Mary Ella could be located at Mount Hope with her son since Mary Ella was not with her husband at Merced.

When I moved this memorial to Mount Hope, I find that someone created a memorial for Mary Ella the day after I created mine. I have requested a delete of the duplicate.

I created a photo request for subject memorial. Can you fulfill? Please do not upload to the duplicate memorial. Again, if multiple family members together, additional group photo would be beneficial.

Thank you,
Del Gran

Ray Dawson #156485607 and mother Mary #156442263
Refer to Ray's "Cemetery Notes" in bio.

It is interesting that Ray's father is buried at Merced but his mother's resting place is unknown. Is it possible that mother Mary #156442263 is at Mount Hope?

I am in my weekly limit for photo requests but, ASAP, will request the three Danzkay's as, from their one-line bios, are related and if side by side, will further confirm. No known relationship to Violet yet but maybe you have enough to add memorial for her?

Ray Dawson #156485607 Photos & Edits

Thanks for the photos and the edits. I accepted the plot but didn't understand why you want me to eliminate part of the inscription. I include name and dates even though it can be redundant with the F-A-G info. However, sometimes there is a difference and I like to include everything on the headstone even if it is sometimes wrong.

I added some info on the bio on the headstone adjacent to Dawson. Please review and see if you have anything to add.
