Bio and Links
Bio Photo The main focus of my research is of course my family which include: Lake, Ferguson, Davis, Lyon, Slater, Flack, Featherstone, just to name a few.

But my true passion is tromping the local cemeteries to record and photograph them. Also, my obituary collection that just continues to grow. Besides adding photo's it is my goal to post this collection of almost 5000 obits. This process is a long and on-going thing....

I have extensive research on the following cemeteries located outside of Traverse City, MI in Acme Cemetery, Yuba Cemetery, Circle Hill and Williamsburg Cemeteries and Maple Grove in Elk Rapids.

Maple Grove Cemetery
Hello, Thank you for creating and photographing memorials for my WRIGHT ancestors buried in Maple Grove Cemetery:
* Plot 135, buried together are:
1.) Oric Allen WRIGHT (1854-1901)
2.) his wife, Lillie Flavilla (Saxton) WRIGHT (1858-1952)
3.) their infant son, Earl Allen WRIGHT (1892-1893)

Do you have any record of their daughter buried in Maple Grove Cemetery? It is possible she is buried in Maple Grove because her parents and husband are known as buried there.
* Helen Marguerite (Wright) LOVE (1894-1927)

Helen's husband is also buried in Maple Grove Cemetery with his second wife:
* Plot 163
3.) U.S. National Guard, Private, Harry Donald LOVE (1892-1981)
4.) his second wife, Ethel M. (unknown) LOVE (1894-1976)

Thank you,
davidcbenton@hotmail.com

William Brackett
Landon Brackett Acme Cemetery Grand Traverse Co. MI
Would you please add the following to Landon Brackett's biographry: Sprague's History of Grand Traverse and Leelanaw Counties Michigan was published by B. F. Bowen in 1903. On pages 390-391 you can find a biography for Landon H. Brackett, which reads: "Landon H. Brackett was born December 21, 1935, in Onondaga county, New York, the youngest of a large family of children born to Ephraim and Joanne (Buckett) Brackett, who settled in Grand Traverse county, Michigan, in 1858 and lived to extreme age, the father reaching his eighty-ninth year and the mother her eighty-fourth. Landon H. Brackett remained in New York until his parents came to Michigan, when he accompanied them and engaged in farming in Acme township. He is one of the men who understand how to make farming pay, and his farm, which comprises one hundred and sixty acres, is one of the best cared for and most productive in Grand Traverse county. Mr. Brackett was married in South Boardman, Kalkaska county, this state, December 14, 1878, to Miss Charlotte Ann Wells. She was born in Canada, April 14, 1852, and is the daughter of William H. and Jane (Fralick) Wells. Her father died at Walton, this county, at the age of fifty-four years. He was a man who was highly respected. There are five children in the family of Mr. Brackett, viz: Jay C., Leon E., Noble L., Elvin W. and Harry. Mr. Brackett is an independent in politics, and votes for the best man, regardless of political sentiment. His father was a soldier in the war of 1812, and located a land grant in Grand Traverse county under Buchanan's administration. Mrs. Brackett is a lady of pleasing personality and grace, and in the early days proved to her husband a true counselor and helpmate in the arduous tail incident to the establishing of their early home. She has reared a fine family, all of whom are living honorable and useful lives."
Joanna Brackett filed for a widow pension based on Ephraim's service in the War of 1812. This document indicates Ephraim served in Cpt. Atherton's Company of the Massachusetts Militia and that they married on 06 Nov 1817 in Middlesex, Ontario County, New York. It also gives Ephraim's death date as 01 Jan 1881 and Joanna's as 12 Sep 1882. It indicates they died in East Bay, Grand Traverse County, Michigan. Their residences are given as 1852, Clarkson, Monroe County, New York, 1855 Union, Monroe County, New York and 1871, East Bay, Grand Traverse County, Michigan. If Ephraim was 89 years old when he died he would have been born about 1792. If Joanna was 84 years old when she died she would have been born about 1798.

Find A Grave Memorial# 26441937
I finally just went ahead and purchased a headstone in November 2013 for John Warner who died in 1953. I posted a photo of it on his grave. I used a company in Traverse City. Not sure why..but John Warner's lack of a headstone struck me as terribly wrong and I wanted to fix that wrong.
