Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Would you transfer Curtis Lloyd Shell's memorial to me, MarianSD #48231601. He was my uncle and I would like to add information to his memorial. Also, Buford Lutes # 105819936, was his friend and they were killed together in an auto accident. So the death date for Buford Lutes is also August 15, 1947.

RE: Broadwell Keith/Sarah Ann Shinkle
There are, in fact, three Broadwell William Keithís in a line with what you call Sr. being Jr. and Jr. being III. The eldest of the three was the son of Dr. M[arville] L[ouis or ewis] Keith and Susanna Ball and was born in Lexington, Kentucky in the 1848/1849 range. He shows up in the Censuses for 1850 and 1860 (with his father), 1870 and 1880 (with his sister, some other siblings and his sistersí second husband Thomas Irvine). He shows up in the Lexington City Directories several times up to 1885/1886. I have just found the 1856 will of his grandfather, William L. Keith which makes specific bequests to his son, Marville L. Keith and his grandson, Broadwell William Keith. W. L. Keith resided in South Carolina which censuses show as the birthplace of M. L. Keith. Broadwell Sr. (1842/1843) is shown as marrying a Miss Lilly McIntyre in Lexington on 15 Mar 1887 in the Lexington Transcript. Subsequently Broadwell is seen no more, but his wife shows up in the 1888 Lexington Directory as Mrs. Lillie Keith and those for 1898, 1895 and 1898-99 as Mrs Lille B, wid of Broadwell. I have an image copy of the physicianís birth certificate for Broadwell III (1907) showing his father (Broadwell, Jr.) then residing in Covington) as being born in Lexington, Kentucky) There is too much evidence here to overlook; these three must certainly be in a direct line. I know were Lillie is buried, but there seems to be no trace of Broadwell, Sr.

In the last couple of weeks, I have done some work on the subsequent two Broadwells and there is a potential problem with the above marriage date, since the birth date I have for Broadwell, Jr (22 Mar 1886) is more than year before the wedding date above. Well, things like that happened back then too, but this birth date is from the California death records and I have found that people keep up with their parentsí birth days better than they do their birth years. BW Jr. shows up in the 1900 census in Covington living with an aunt or uncle. There are baptism records for him and his son in Covington (Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption) which I havenít got to look at yet. I have no idea where Broadwell Jr. is buried. If you are following this line, let me know your email and I will send you the data I have. And if you have BW Jrís place of interment, let me know too.

Joshua Leathers - Highland Cemetery
Hi Debbie,
An individual posted on the internet that Joshua was relocated from the Beechwood Farm to Highland bases on a conversation with the cemetery, as cited in the web page. The cemetery just told me they do not have him listed in their computer.

However, I have been through this before when trying to find Benjamin and Thomas. They initially told me they did not have them in their records. After a couple more attempts, they told me they were there and sent me a plot maps identifying where they were buried, in unmarked graves. I can email you the two Leathers family plot maps as well as the Casey family plot map.

I'm pretty sure it's Nofsinger. Sometimes it's hard to differentiate between an f and an s on a weathered grave marker. Let me know what you think.
