Bio and Links
Bio Photo Native to Zanesville, OH, I am the son of the late Dale Denver Darst and Peggy Eileen Lewis and have resided at Dallas, TX since April of 1983. I graduated from The Ohio State University in March of 1982, with a B.S. in Education.

[Derst Message Board / Gravel Hill Cemetery]

My passion for family history started the day I visited The Alamo at San Antonio back in early 1984; witness to a painted portrait of Jacob Calloway Darst, whom I later realized was a first cousin (5 generations removed).

Leon Herman Durst
Hello Robert,
I am trying to locate Herman Ray Durst, son of W. J. Durst or his descendants and I found that you have maintained the site for Leon Herman Durst. Can you tell me if the name Durst through the genealogies of the Darst family name had been changed to Darst and if you have spotted any relation to Herman Ray Durst? He could be in his early to mid 70's if he is still living.
Thank you for your help.

Darst Family Help
I am friends with 94 year old Earle Darst, who is alive (but not so well) and living in Coupeville, Whidbey Island, WA (where he was born in 1919). I noticed you've posted a picture of his father Glenn, so am not sure if you already have a local contact. If not...I can help you as I also live on the island and am passionate about genealogy and helping others. Oddly, I recently found that I am very distantly related to some Darsts' as well (apparently, they do get around)! Perhaps I can answer some questions (I'll check in with Earle if need be) or I can help by taking pictures of the headstones at Sunnyside Cemetery? On the Island, the Darst family married into the Barrington family (as in "Captain Barrington", who was an early pioneer here (and whose siblings were big deals in the Yukon (Gold) expeditions). Let me know if I can help. First let me mention that Earle Darst was married 4 times and has outlived all but his first wife (mother of his only child...Vivian Darst).

Charles Bruno Durst
Robert, You have done such a wonderful job on the memorial for Charles Durst. Your story is very eloquent and informative. I am related to this family through Texana Lusk. In your memorial you spelled her name Rusk. I know that is a small typo.
I am going through some old folder and I have found a letter from Lucille McKinney. She said her husbands name is Dub, and they live on Chimney Rock in Houston. This letter was written in 1988.
Thanks to Ancestry I am now able to make a connection with people who I corresponded with 30 years ago. I would be interested if you could help me connect Dub with Texana.
Thanks, Lynda Ferguson White

Benjamin and Mahala Yeauger
Hello Robert I am a descendant of Mariah Yeauger Mulford who is the daughter of Benjamin and Mahala Yeauger. In researching them I found the picture you posted on Julia A Yeauger Lewis' memorial. I wonder if you could please tell me the names of the people pictured? This is my father's family and I only have just a couple pictures of any of his descendants. I appreciate any info or pictures you could share with me. Also, by the way, I was raised in Ohio and now live in Anna, Texas!

Thanks again!

Nathaniel vs Nathaniel J Birchfield
Hello Robert -

I'm a descendant of William Birchfield, whose son Nathaniel J (or Nathan J) was married to America Precious Lewis, who is buried in Pisgah Cemetery in Redmond, Mason County, West Virginia.

You have her linked to the Nathaniel Birchfield buried at Pisgah, who died 29 Oct 1904. However, that is not America's husband. That is Nathaniel Birchfield, born 1827 in North Carolina, married to Eliza Hall. Eliza is buried at Pisgah -- Eliza Birchfield 1840-1917.

Unfortunately, I do not know where America's husband Nathaniel J Birchfield (born 1847) is buried. After America died, he remarried a widow, Sarah (Johnson) Collins. The last trace of him I can find is in the 1920 census. He may have been buried with his second wife, but I can't find her burial either.

The links from America to two children, William and Sarah Estep, are correct. Their father, however, is not the Nathaniel who died in 1904; it is Nathaniel J (born 1847), death unknown, burial unknown.

I have these Nathaniels in my family tree on Please reply back and I'll give you access to the tree.

Many thanks - hope this isn't too confusing.
