Poorhouse Cemetery Chatham I had a great Aunt Hester Ann Bowling Fain born b Apr 9, 1854 in Patrick Co, VA, who lived at the District home almost 1 month & died 30 July 1940 of cerebral Apoplexy & the Dr who signed the death certificate was Dr.C.D. Bennett of Chatham,Va. I noticed this cemetery has many graves some w/ brass markers, some with stones, some with indentions. Is it possible that the Oak Grove Residential Care Facility has some records to prove that she was buried there since the description of this cemetery says that is a possibility & the death certificate said a funeral director was Kenneth P. Scott of Stuart, Va. was in charge of removal. Maybe he did that for the District Home & she was not taken back to Stuart,Va at all. She was residing there because it was a Poor Farm & most likely no one had money to bury her elsewhere. I have been looking for her burial place for 10 years. Her Parents were William Waller & Nancy Jane Bowling of Patrick Co.,Va. & they are my great grandparents & she was my Great Aunt. Thanks Anne Bowlin Reyna
Pittsylvania Co Poorhouse Cemetery Do you have any idea where this cemetery is located on the property of Oak Grove Residential Facility in Chatham, Va and how did you find the list of names of the people that are listed here on Find A Grave.
I have a relative that is buried there. Her name was Adeline Midriff Justice and she died there in 1949. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
RE: William Hayes Smith- Harrah Cemetery I have no idea who marked the graves but I am glad they did. Someone also marked my 3grgrandmother and several others. I suspect it was the same person. Getting the photo was no problem at all. I am often in the cemetery. My father and several other family members are buried there. He is not closely related to me, you are welcome to the memorial. If you give me your member # I will transfer it.
RE: Mock family WOW! That is amazing! Finding all of this information has been thrilling for my husband and as well as myself. There had always been what we thought to be family "folklore" regarding the name change but to discover its truth stemming from my husbands paternal grandfather was invaluable! We would love any other information or pictures that you may have and are willing to share. We dont have much of anything from his paternal side as his dad passed away when he was a young child. So cool to find another relative!!! Thank you!!! M.Mock
RE: Mock family Hello D. Mack, Yes, we are related to the Mock family. Pleased to meet you! My husbands family is descendant from James Will Mock & Catherine Dunkley Mock. I have traced his fathers side back to Marcus Mauck & Delilah Frye Mauck. Where does your relation enter? Sincerely, M. Mock
Are you related to the Spencer's? I have been on this cemetery many many times. I have had the majority of these pictures for about a decade but never got around to adding them and the memorials. My great-grandfather was born on the backside of this cemetery. The house his father build is still standing just off of route 680 (Springs Road). I have many cousins and grandparents here.
