Bio

Randal A. Burd, Jr. has a B.A. in English from Missouri S&T and an M.Ed. in English Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Missouri. Randal earned undergraduate minors in Art, Psychology, and Writing and holds career teaching certifications in Missouri for English 9-12, Mild to Moderate Disabilities K-12, and Adult Education. He currently works as an educator teaching disadvantaged youth and adults in rural Missouri.

Randal is the editor of the online poetry journal Sparks of Calliope and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize for his poem "Humble Apologies" in his second poetry collection, "Memoirs of a Witness Tree" (Kelsay Books, 2020). He completed two terms as Commander of the Department of Missouri, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (2016-2018), and is a Life Member of the Order. Randal is a Hereditary Companion in the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States. He also served as the President (2011-2012) of the Ozark Patriots Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution and was a charter member of the General Daniel Bissell chapter of the General Society of the War of 1812. Randal was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 2013 and is a lifetime member of the Pulaski County (Missouri) Historical Society.
