Bio

I am a Funeral Director in New Albany, MS. I have lived in New Albany since 10-73. A few years ago I got interested in looking up the old abandoned cemeteries in Union County. Then I decided to look up all the cemeteries not only in Union County, where I live, but also in Benton County, where I grew up, Tippah County, where my wife grew up, and Pontotoc County, where I have worked with a funeral home and worked services in a number of cemeteries. I have identified 115 cemeteries in Union County (8 of which the markers are destroyed and/or the exact location is unknown) and have been in and have pics of 105 of them. I have identified 200 cemeteries in Tippah County (15 of which the markers are destroyed and/or the exact location is unknown) and have been in and have pics of 168 of them. I have identified 159 cemeteries in Pontotoc County (6 of which the markers are destroyed and/or the exact location is unknown) and have been in and have pics of 145 of them. I have tentatively identified 195 cemeteries in Benton County. I can't be sure at this point of the exact number because some of the cemeteries I have identified may have the same name. I have been in and have pics of 101 of them. I have added Choctaw County to this list since that's where my mother grew up and I have quite a number of relatives buried there. At this time I have been unable to determine the total number of cemeteries in Choctaw County. I have, at this time, been in and have pics of 85 cemeteries. When I am through I plan to have been in and have pics of every identified cemetery in Union, Tippah, Benton, Pontotoc, and Choctaw Counties (except those which the markers are destroyed and the exact location is unknown).
