Hello. I just found the memorial page for the mother-in-law of my 4th great grand aunt and saw that you provided a photo of her headstone. Would it be ok if I used your photo in my family tree, crediting you of course? :)

Thanks so much!

RE: George Wheater
Just to clarify. Amanda was in the US. It is his first wife Sarah Ann that is in question as to whether she was here. Thanks for all of your efforts.

Dear pianogal5004

Thank you,

I can add to what you have here. There was a son Albert E born 25 Nov 1867 died 18 Aug 1868 parents George Wheater and Mary Ann Wheater. Have note found a death found a Mary Ann. 1970 Census show George, Mary Ann and daughter Charlotte - later often called Lottie. Then child of George and Amanda Died Dec 1871 1 year old. No marriage found or Amanda. Lottie census says she was born in New York. George's obit says he came to New York from England in 1865 and moved to Michigan in 1866.
Yes in England George had been married to Sarah Ann Brocklebank. They had 3 children there and she died there in 1899. I have seen nothing to suggest that Sarah Ann ever came to the US. Is Mary Ann the same person as Amanda. If the records are accurate there is 6 years difference in their ages but we can count on that. Have been checking records in St. Lawrence County New York. That is where cousins settled (my part of the family) and might be where he first went in coming to the US. Have not found any immigration records for George although I have found some in St. Lawrence for the family there. Many of the immigrants in that area did not come through NYC of Boston, they came to Quebec and then down the St. Lawrence river to New York. I have an email address for Glen Bury and used to communicate with her a lot, but she hasn't been answering lately. Hopefully she is OK.

I have been through everything I could find on Muskegan Co. without seeing that data. You wouldn't have had any contact with Glenis Bury who is mentioned on the page would you? She is English and still in England. I thought Glenis might have edited you post, but I think that would show.

RE: George Wheater
Thank you,

That would be great if you could find it. Is that a county historian site or a US GenWeb site?

Was very interested to learn that George's first wife actually came to America. I have been working on the genealogy for all US Wheaters. I had also sen a reference that George initially came to New York before coming to Michigan. His first wife also re-married after returning to England. Can you confirm if there was a divorce?
