Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am 48 years old and have 3 children. Family history has always interested me. Find A Grave is a great way to help others learn more about their own family's past.

Dear Ancestor,

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
neglected and alone
The name and date are chiseled out
on polished, marbled stone
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn
You did not know that I'd exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
in flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
one hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
and come to visit you.

Mathias Hargather
Judy, thank you so much for the information on Mathias Hargather--he was my great-grandfather. I've never seen his gravestone before. Louisa M. Dax was his wife, but we were always told she was from the Alsace-Lorraine area. I don't think there's a town named "Lorraine" in France--I'll have to check to be sure. Their daughter Agnes Hargather Kuebel, was my Grandmother.

RE: John Hargarter #67919695
John Hargarter's obituary appeared on March 7 and March 9, 1887 in the Union and Advertiser.

In the March 16, 1887 Union and Advertiser, 2 separate "in memoriam" notices for John Hargarter were published by the Exempt Fireman's Association.

The above is from the Rochester Newspaper Index on-line (Monroe Co. Library).

John Hargarter and Mary Eva Yawman were married Sep 15, 1858 in Rochester. She died on March 21, 1929, but cannot find her burial in Holy Sepulchre.

Thanks for your quick reply and thank you for any help!

John Hargarter #67919695
In the 1888 Rochester City Directory, I find a John Hargarter, died March 1888, who leaves a widow Mary. This fits the info that I already have for this family. I can find no other information for this death.

Where did the 1881 death date come from on your memorial? Thanks for your help.
