A few years back, I began to delve into our family history. I had found myself in a position where I was unable to work (most places dislike it when you are lying down on the job) and I didn't want my brain turning to mush anymore then it has to! I have learned things, not only about my family, but other families and history in general. I found this site helpful and felt that I could contribute to it on my better days. Thankfully, my husband gives in to this quest of mine and helps me out.
I love walking cemeteries, but it hurts to see the stones that have been forgotten or damaged by vandalism and neglect. We have taught my teenage sons to respect the graves of those who have gone before us. We have woven stories of the importance of remembering what has passed. They may grumble a bit, but, in the end, it has been worth taking them on my travels.
