I have always been interested in History and Biographies. Part of visiting cemeteries is part of this interest. I also believe it is important for the living to remember those that left a mark in this world for their contributions large and small and thank goodness this website exists.
Edelstein Plot I transfered "Izzy" to you; but, first I took the liberty of linking him to his parents. By his stone you can see he was married and had children. Also to the right of the Edelstein Plot there is a similar sized plot; similar headstone; "Schwartz"!!! I asked at the office about the name of the society and they told me that if the society is defunct (which you mentioned it was) they could not tell me anything about it. Have you been to Washington Cemetery before? Do you live nearby?
Joseph and Pauline Edelstein I posted pix for them both. As you can see the Edelstein Plot is nice size. There was also an Isidore Edelstein there. I created a memorial for him and posted pix. If you want I will transfer his memorial to you.
Famous Yiddish Performers This is the part that I like best! I call it the "Quest" Who were they? Where did they come from? Who they married? How many children? Where are they now? Your "Quest" seems to be the Yiddish Performers. When you call Washington Cemetery the person I found most helpful was, "Michael". He seems to go the extra mile. The sad part is that the workers at Washington Cemetery (and I think the City itself) has no idea who is buried there. There is a lot more than a few famous mobsters. I am interested to help. Keep me informed.
Sigmund Mogulesko Again, he was in the same area as David Kessler. So the sun was at the wrong slant. He had a huge monument, six feet tall and three feet thick. I have never see such a thick monument. It was a small plot with four post marking it off. His wife, Amalia and son Julius were buried there also. I posted the memorials for them and linked them to him. If you want, I will be happy to transfer management to you. There is a reason why these old time yiddish entertainers are all buried in the same place. Some "society" secured their plots for them. It would be interesting to findout who else is there at Post 150.
David Kessler I posted David Kessler's gravestone picture. I had difficulty because of the angle of the sun. I also created, posted and linked his wife Rachel. I would be happy to transfer that posting to you. I had difficutly reading the "born" date. I guessed it to be 1863 but it could be 1883. Could she had been 20 years younger than him?
