Thank you so much for your work adding the memorials for a branch of my family Researching the Powell Family across Long Island has been fun yet a tedious task Your additions have made my research and the documentation of their existence easier! Having lived on Long Island but moved away before the genealogy bug bit me I am sad that I cannot be there to do a lot of the work myself I am going to be requesting photos of all of the stones and I have also suggested a few edits I am trying to link all of the Powell's across the island together I have many of them already in my care as handed over by others If at any time you would like to do the same I would be honored to accept the maintenance of my family members memorials sites Thanks again!!
John H. is not in my line so far as I know, but I will make updates for his memorial based on what I have found.
My 4xGGF was Gabriel Cornell or Cornwall who lived in Warwick, Orange County, NY until 1800 when he emigrated to Canada. He was not loyalist.
I am updating the Cornell genealogies and hoping that I manage to find my ancestry along the way. What leads we presently have is that our may line have come from Westchester County, NY, and this makes it possible they were part of the Long Island Cornell/Cornwell family.
The gravestone photo placed on the memorial of John H. shows him to be the John H. Cornell I found in a CIvil War muster roll on Ancestry. Service dates there fit exactly the obit posted for him, and census records I found for him include the three sons named in the obit. I found his parents and also his grandfather in the censuses.
Currently, he is in my volume of unknowns, but maybe his ancestry will eventually become apparent.
Memorial# 77730477 Thomas Stephen Taylor Carol ~ Oh, dear, is my face ever RED! I heard from my cousin in Florida who knew Thomas, and she informed me that the Death Date on the headstone is correct! Please forgive my goof! I have notified "Anonymous" who took the photo, and asked her to forgive my error also! I am normally extremely careful about data. Thank you for your kind understanding! Memorial# 77730477 Thomas Stephen Taylor Hi, Carol ~ We have a dilemma: my Thomas Stephen Taylor, married to Leone Evelyn "Oney" Knettel, was born 13 Oct 1908 Oyster Bay, Nassau County, New York and died 13 Mar 1992 Volusia County Florida. The Birth/Death dates you have on his Memorial differ completely, and match the tombstone photo that "Anonymous" has placed on this Memorial, which is not my Thomas' dates.
Oney's BD/DD are correct on her Memorial# 77730502 that you made.
One thing of which I am not certain, is if they were both buried in Saint John of Jerusalem Cemetery Wantagh, Nassau County, New York, USA that you have listed.
He died in Florida and she died in California. Now of course it is possible they were buried in NY, because they were both born in Nassau County, Long Island, NY, but I don't know.
Would you mind checking your records of this cemetery to see if they were both buried here? Also, if they were, is there a matching headstone with the correct dates for Thomas and possibly Leone?
Thank you, ever so much for your kind help in this matter! ;-) Janet in Texas ID#47018985
