Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have always been interested in tracing my family history, even as a young child. Now that my relatives are getting older I want to try to gather and preserve as much information as I can.

Some of the family surnames that I research are all the varients of Hoffert, Raifsnider, Hartman, Furillo, Bowers, Wagner, Meyer, Merkey to name a few. I have helped many of my extended family and friends with their trees as well.

I am in the Berks County Area. The Berks County Historical Society as a nice online database you can use to search most church and cemetery records. This site has helped me find maiden names, spouses, parents and burial sites I would not have known other wise. Another great source of information in Berks County online is this site from the Berks County Register of Wills.

Annie & me (but mostly me)
RE: Username
Well, Annie is my nick-name for my sister. When I was doing volunteer pics, I usually went alone and would spend HOURS looking for a photo request. The first time she went with me she found 7 in 20 minutes. So I changed my screen name.

RE: Sarah Raifsnider-Carl
Cool! So we may or may not be related...makes my head hurt to think through the connections ;-) Thanks for linking Sallie Titlow to Charles Carl. I knew he had a first wife that he had a few children with, but I hadn't identified her yet. You have been at this longer than I have, so I imagine you have already found everything I have, but feel free to browse my public tree on Ancestry (my id is cdelongva).

RE: Sarah Raifsnider-Carl
Yep...her husband, Charles S. Carl, is my 2nd cousin 3 x removed. I also found out today that I am related to her son, Larry E. Carl, in two ways. He is my 3rd cousin 2 x removed and his wife, Edna (Hartman) Carl, is my 4th cousin 1 x removed. My ancestor on the Carl side is John Eck, my 4th great grandfather, and on the Hartman side is Johannes DeLong, another 4th great grandfather.

Scratch everything I said on Pearl Guiles. She is not Pearl Miller. I found her obituary and she was in fact born a Hartman. Strange coincidence though.

Sometimes I get lucky with these missing folks. Take for example Pearl Miller, 102347772, I found her last night. She married Harry Guiles soon after her separation with Harry Hartman. They have her maiden name as Hartman. I've requested it be changed to Miller.

Which ancestor born in 1825? Ancestry/com now is showing death records from 1905 to 1944. It was 1905-1927 before. These records provide a wealth of parental and burial information.

RE: Berks County Almshouse
It is a relatively new feature with,

Pennsylvania, Death Certificates, 1906-1924
It has advanced ancestry research in a mighty leap. You can search with all kinds of variations, names, including maiden, dates/parents/areas, etc. I know the almshouse is under Cumru Twp. so I have been searching for everyone from there. Many lost sheep of families ended up there. I also created a cemetery for the almshouse in findagrave, "Berks County Almshouse".
