I've been studying genealogy and family history informally since about 1999, when I was still an Associate Professor of Political Science at Tennessee Technological University. I got bit by the bug when I read a pro-Confederate memoir in my family--and I thought before then we were all Yankees! I am a California native, and so are my grandparents, and even two great-grandmothers.
