Bio and Links
Bio Photo Born in Japan, thanks to the US military. Live in Charleston, SC. Went to college in Charleston and never wanted to leave. My father was from Ohio, mother from Michigan. Ancestry is primarily English/Irish/Scots/German/Bohemian. Because of some unique circumstances there is not much available about my family beyond a few generations.

My wife's family, however, is from Lee County, South Carolina, and her lineage has been easy to trace.

RE: Eleta Scarborough
David this is another child born to the family of Jessie Wilson Scarborough & wife, Annie Octavia Tisdale.

Her obit spells her name "Elita", age 52. Her stone spells it "Elleta" which I'm going to use.

I don't know how to attach an obit for you but I will type it here for you:

The State Newspaper, Columbia, SC, Saturday, 13 Sep 1958, Pg 5A, Col. 3:

"Miss Scarborough, 52, Sumter, Dies: Miss Elita Scarborough, 52, died at her home, 35 Carolina Avenue, at 6:30 Thursday afternoon after an illness of several years.

Miss Scarborough was the daughter of the late Jesse Wilson and Annie Tisdale Scarborough and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sumter.

She is survived by six sisters, Miss Geneva Scarborough, Mrs. Ashby Williams, Mrs. J. T. Williams and Mrs. Eldridge Barnes, all of Sumter and Mrs. Lesley Hawkins of Charleston, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held from the chapel of the Shelley Brunson Funeral Home at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon by her pastor, the Rev. Cliff H. McLeod, assisted by the Rev. H. L. Hunter. Interment will follow in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Lee County."

The Jesse/Jessie Wilson Scarborough family consisted of the following children:

1. Geneva S. Scarborough (04 Apr 1896 - 13 Sep 1982)

2. Ashby Lee Scarborough (07 Jul 1899 - 01 Mar 1983

3. Elleta/Elita Scarborough (19 Dec 1901 - 11 Sep 1958)

4. Annie Dell Scarborough (28 Aug 1903 - 28 Apr 1966)

5. Iona "Onnie" Scarborough (15 Dec 1904 - 04 Jul 1985)

6. Ernest Wilson Scarborough (11 Sep 1906 - 12 Sep 1907)

7. Margie F. Scarborough (1911 - 1986)

8. Elva Lee Scarborough (30 Jul 1912 - 06 Sep 1982)

Mem #46322326
Hi David, thanks for posting to findagrave. It is so beneficial to we family researchers.

On Mem #46322326 - Elleta M. Scarborough, would you change the year of her death to 1958 instead of 1950 which is probably a typing error?

She is one of the family members I am researching on the SCARBOROUGH'S. The picture of her marker does have 1958 and her obit is dated Saturday, 13 Sep 1958.

Thanks,
Mary S. Harmon

RE: Infant Mixon
Oh, hope I was not too confusing in my note...yes, they would be half siblings!!! I use the familySearch.org site for working the family history and am pleased with newer documents that help get the families all in order and correct! I always believed that one of my grandmother's had a certain mother in a family of three spouses (mothers)and now I find that the other one is actually her mother!! So, that has been quite a change of mind as well as ancestry!!

Peyton G Bowman 32962643
Hello David- Peyton Green Bowman had no children, but I have done quite a bit of research on him. His sister, Agnes Cornelia Bowman Moore was my great grandmother. Would you mind transfering his memorial to me to manage? i have added a photo of his grave and a photo of him. Thanks.

Please pardon; it is my understanding that this cemetery is in Turkey Creek, originally Kershaw County, now Lee County (since 1902).
