Born in Japan, thanks to the US military. Live in Charleston, SC. Went to college in Charleston and never wanted to leave. My father was from Ohio, mother from Michigan. Ancestry is primarily English/Irish/Scots/German/Bohemian. Because of some unique circumstances there is not much available about my family beyond a few generations. |
My wife's family, however, is from Lee County, South Carolina, and her lineage has been easy to trace.

Hi David, and thanks for the offer to share your burial record source. I don't think I could make much use of it because most of my family lived and died in the Carolinas.
My connection to Willie and Hattie is through their daughter Esma who married my Dad's brother, Hugh.
Thanks for your work and for keeping an open mind! That's rare these days 😀

Thanks for your messages and quick replies. The assumption I was refering to was that the father was also named "Lawton". This appears to be an assumption based solely on the fact that the son was a "junior".
Does your source (burial record) also list the father as "Lawton Wille Alexander"? If so you would have a much stronger case for using that name. However, it would still be "iffy" since so many other records disagree with that information.

First of all, thanks very much for all your hard work! Just wanted to let you know that I've been submitting photographs and linking various family members to several of my cousins who are buried at the Piedmont and Bethlehem Methodist cemeteries in Bishopville, South Carolina. I have quite a bit in the way of proof, and would be happy to share details if you're interested.
Please pardon; it is my understanding that this cemetery is in Turkey Creek, originally Kershaw County, now Lee County (since 1902).

Thank you so much for the transfers.
I deeply appreciate your making those memorials.

Thanks, David. You are a kind and generous man!
Thank you for the transfer, David. I'm finding a lot of obits for people that you listed, but not related to all, so please don't think you have to transfer them all. But he is related, so thanks.
|Debra Allen||Rose Drayman Smith Glidden|
I am Debbie Palmer Allen, Teresa's cousin through Margaret's sister Barbara. Rose's middle name was never Ethel. It should have been Ella like Ethel's mother's name, but was only written as El.
I have found the Canadian cousins and have enjoyed corresponding with them. My grandmother shared a lot of information with me and gave me pictures of her grandfather David McLaughlin and one of herself at the age of 16.
I have also found her sister Betty in the 1930 census and in a number of California directories. It is sad that she ended up insane as did her mother Ethel.
I am still searching for traces of Rose and Betty after their mother left and still haven't found out when or where there father died.
Good luck with your research! Just didn't want you to keep Ethel as her middle name when that wasn't what was intended.
