James Lappin served in the British Merchant Navy. James was a man of great courage. During World War11 he was crossing the Atlantic to bring in the most needed food for war torn Britain. at least 2 of the ships he was on were torpedoed. On one ship he did save his collegues life. On the second he was adrift in an open life boat missing presumed dead. He was adrift for several weeks found suffering from over exposure. He was very ill. As soon as he recovered he was back to see. Sailing in convoy he had to watch ships torpedoed, they could not stop to pick up anyone. His torpedoed ships were on fire they were horrific times.
