James Lappin 1917-1958
James Lappin served in the British Merchant Navy. James was a man of great courage. During World War11 he was crossing the Atlantic to bring in the most needed food for war torn Britain. at least 2 of the ships he was on were torpedoed. On one ship he did save his collegues life. On the second he was adrift in an open life boat missing presumed dead. He was adrift for several weeks found suffering from over exposure. He was very ill. As soon as he recovered he was back to see. Sailing in convoy he had to watch ships torpedoed, they could not stop to pick up anyone. His torpedoed ships were on fire they were horrific times. He then set sail for the evacuation of Dunkirk. A further horrific time. At the same time this man maintained his mother,who had been widowed in 1926.Despite failing health he continued in the Merchant Navy This man loved his sisters nieces and nephews. He set sail on the Empress of Canada September 1958 he was taken ashore in Baltimore to Johns Hopkins hospital. he died there on October 9th 1958. He left a grief stricken family we all loved him so much Thank you to Find a Grave I now know were he is.
