As a teenager I used to do gravestone rubbings on 1600's stones particularly the ones with the angel or death head motifs. Mt. Auburn Cemetery is my all-time favorite.

Oh, must add that one of the most curious & moving gravestones I found was in Brimfield, MA where the deceased, it read, was 'hurt by a plow.'
