Bio Photo Hello from New Mexico.
I've been excavating and cataloging pioneer cemeteries for over 30 years. In the 1980s I even published a few works on the subject. Like most of you, I'm also an avid genealogist. While I enjoy finding the graves of famous people, I'm more interested in the common soldier and pioneer. Every one of them has a story.

As for genealogy, I am currently working on the surnames Trine, Minter, Dozier, Shackleford and Marquez. I'm also collecting the names and graves of the Maryland 6th Infantry.

I'm usually "on the road," so my photos come from wherever I happen to be. I've had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of wonderful people who share this love for history. Contact me if I can be of any help to you.

RE: Michael Swartz and Mary Ann Minter Swartz
Thanks for the information! I located Andrew James and Cecillia in baptismal records with parents being Michael and Mary Black. Catherina and Jeremiah baptismal records were located with parents being Michael and Mary Swartz. All where baptized in Manchester, MD except Catherina, who was baptized at St. Jacob's Stone Church.

Andrew James was born July 23, 1839 and baptized on August 12, 1839.

Cecellia was born June 4, 1843 and baptized on September 17, 1843.

Catherina was born April 23, 1849 and baptized on May 9, 1849.

Jeremiah was born July 23, 1850 and baptized on September 6, 1850.

Also, I have from marriage records that Henry M. (Swartz)Black's first wife was Eliza Amelia Grogg, married on 5/11/1869 in Carroll Co., MD. Eliza Swartz died 5/11/1870 in childbirth and is buried in Lazarus Cemetery. Eliza's parents were Jesse and Catherine Fisher Grogg. In the 1870 census there is an infant Catherine Black born May 1870 living in the Grogg household. I have no idea of her whereabouts. She does not appear in the Grogg household in the 1880 census.

As for Daniel Wolfgang, this is the following census info I have (all in Manheim Twp., York Co., PA):
1860: Daniel 43, Sarah 41, George 15, Saranda 11, Jacob 8, Theodore 7, Mary 68, Leah 28;

1870: Daniel 55 (Constable), Sarah 47, George 20, Lucinda 18, Jacob 17, Theodore 13, Leah 45;

1880: Daniel 62 (Painter & Plasterer), Barbara E. 38 wife, George M. 36 son, Saranda 25 daughter, Sarah M. 5 daughter, Franklin Fleming 1 grandson, Leah 48 sister.

Daniel and Barbara Ellen had a daughter Sarah Mandilla born July 5, 1874 and baptized on October 4, 1874 at St. Jacob's Stone Church.
Daniel was in the Civil War and served in Co. B, 166th Regiment, PA Infantry. He was listed as an invalid in a July 6, 1881 pension filing. Barbara filed for a pension as a widow on December 15, 1888.

Would you know who Michael Black's parents were? In the 1850 census for Manchester, MD there is a George and Mary Black. George born about 1784 and Mary born about 1777. George must have died before 1860 because in the 1860 census Mary is living with a John and Ann Wampler in Manchester, MD. I cannot locate their graves or other information to tie them to Michael Black. Thanks again!

RE: Joseph Pullen
He's not in my family tree. I feel I owe the person to have the correct info. if I can. So many different resources so I understand the discrepancies.

Thanks for what you do! Happy and safe travels.

Michael Swartz and Mary Ann Minter Swartz
It was great to see pictures of my great-great-great grandparents! I am a descendant of Henry M. Swartz/Black and Francana Crumrine. Other than Henry and his sister Cecelia and brother Adam, do you have any information on Michael and Mary Ann's other children. I beleive there are about 5 other children. Thanks.
