THIS IS A CEMETERY

Lives are commemorated - deaths are recorded - families are reunited - memories are made tangible - and live is undisguised. This is a cemetery.

Communities accord respect, families bestow reverence, historians seek information and our heritage is thereby enriched.

Testimonies of devotions, pride and remembrance are carved in stone to pay warm tribute to accomplishments and to the life - not death - of a loved one. The cemetery is homeland for family memorials that are a sustaining source of comfort to the living.

A cemetery is a history of people - a personal record of yesterday and a sanctuary of peace and quiet today. A cemetery exists because every life is worth loving and remembering - ALWAYS.

I am Marion Pate Hicks, the third great granddaughter of Capt James D Meadows. I am responsible for the graveside SCV service which placed the stone in 2010 that you have pictured on this memorial page. Please contact me (mlhpmh5555@hotmail.com) regarding corrections that need to be made concerning errors related to rank promotion, the incorrect date of his getting shot while a POW, incomplete/inaccurate accounts of his children, etc. Thank you.

Andrew Green Semmes
Hello -- I noticed that you are the person to contact about Andrew G. Semmes (Find A Grave Memorial# 46556340) and Mary Robertson Semmes (Find A Grave Memorial# 46565577).

I wondered if you knew if their youngest son, Joseph Green Semmes, was buried with them. I checked with Historic Linwood Cemetery, and Joseph is not buried there with his brother, Paul J. Semmes.

Another thing that might help you is that Joseph Semmes was a suicide, so I don't know if that would make a difference in where he was buried.

Here is some information I have been able to gather on Joseph Semmes:

If you can help me with this, I would be very grateful. Thank you, Jean Cooper

Willoughbys at Rocky Mount Cemetery

Jackie:

Have sent you quite a number of edits for the Willoughbys at Rocky Mount Cemetery. Helping my cousin's wife with her family and these are all her people. Getting them linked will be a big plus for her. Thank you for doing this and hopefully it is not too much trouble for you with the easy editing Find A Grave has now.

Morgans: Mt. Zion Cemetery, Oscarville, GA
Do you know if there are other Morgans buried in the Mt. Zion Cemetery other than Ophelia and Virgil? I am searching for Mary R. Molly Morgan Barrett and her husband John Good Barrett who died in 1893, in Oscarville. They were my great grandparents.l I visited the Mt. Zion Cemetery last fall and noticed that there were a large number of graves marked only by stones. Is there a registry somewhere of the interments in this cemetery? Do you know of a contact who might know? Thanks! Donna Grimes, wdnjd958@yahoo.com

I am wondering where you got the records for this burial and the one for her husband John. I was up at Martel a couple of years ago looking for these graves as they are family. My late aunt was told that the records were destroyed in a fire. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

RE: Elias L McCarty 47264791
I had asked the current owner to delete it since it was a duplicate. Here was her reply:

From: mott5@comporium.net
To: meredith_clapper@hotmail.com
Subject: ELIAS L MCCARTY
Date: Tue, 7 Oct 2014 11:46:23 -0400

Meredith: I tried to delete the duplicate on Elias L. McCarty. He was my first husband's grandfather, and my children's great grandfather. They would not let me delete it for some reason. It was transferred to me by another person and I think that was the reason for not deleting it. Thanks, Mel and Carole
