When I was in college almost 40 years ago, I interviewed my 2 living grandparents for an American History class. I wrote down everything they told me and preserved countless pictures that they gave me. That started my quest. My husband & I have traveled the country spending countless hours/days in courthouses, cemeteries, libraries, etc. looking for documentation to prove family lines. Many stories passed down through the family have been proven untrue and some family members dispute the facts....however, I only record what can be proven as my membership in many lineage societies requires.

Hi, My name is Pat Long. I love your bio and really appreciate that you strive to make sure you can prove your family lineage. I have been searching mine since age 17 and next year will have been doing this for 60 years. I still find things about my ancestors that I never knew. When I started I had many family legends to prove and many were only that - legends, without any proof. I have traveled a lot looking for court records in many counties, but cannot physically do that now, so thinking about hanging it up. I am sure I will never quit completely, but am slowing down. I have HUGHES ancestors, mainly Blackmore Hughes b. 1718, his son W. Beveridge Hughes, Regina Agnes Hughes d/o Beveridge Hughes and Nancy Austin. My brick wall is finding the father of Blackmore Hughes and the surname of his 2nd wife Ann(believed to be either an Alston, Austin, or Beveridge). Would you have any information that you would share with me on my Blackmore Hughes. There were 3 Blackmore Hughes, the father, the son, and a grandson. I believe that is right. Thank you for all the great information you have presented here. I have cousins related to James Abram Hughes and his wife Barbara Branch.
Sincerely yours, Pat Long, Roanoke, VA.

You can do something about your photos...you can make ancestry take them down by emailing a DMCA takedown notice to their copyright agent. I get mine removed all of the time using this method. I will contact you with further details.

The address is:
431 Blackburn Ave
Ashland, KY 41101
Pollard Baptist church is across the street. I'm assuming they hold the cemetery records so it may be wise to phone them for records. Also, I tried find John Lewis' grave there as well. I couldn't find it. I went home and looked it up and found out that his body has been moved to Ashland Cemetery here in Boyd County. When I get the chance later this week, I will see if i can find it.
Hope this helps...
