Bio and Links
Bio Photo Time moves quickly, while I've been a member for almost 6 years to this site, I have been working on my family genealogy in spurts for quite some time. I appreciate all of the help people from this site have given me!

Looks like I'm following descendents (YOUNG & SHAW) linked to the Revolutionary War & Mayflower. Exciting!

Today, while entering Woodside interments, the counter entered/turned to 14,000 memorials in the cemetery.

Now that I am doing photo requests, I have developed a deeper respect for those who have been doing it for a long time. It's a lot of work but - quite rewarding at the same time. By following the family name in research and headstone photos, one feels a kinship to that family.

I do ask one favor of anyone who would like to use photos from my memorials. Please ask permission before you "borrow" my images to use in your own tree (it helps me find connections for my own research) and, at the very least, cite my name as the researcher and owner of the image @ Find-a-Grave. Do that as a courtesy to me, since I did do the leg work & am sharing.

Feel free to leave flowers or sponsor any of the memorials. All ladies love flowers. I try to leave flowers @ memorials for young children and veterans.

Best of luck to us all!

I see you have a good information for Mr Azbill and his children. He was my great grandfather. I don't have any information about his parents.Do you have any information about his ancestry? Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Barry Powell

RE: Nancy (Snoddy) Parks
Beverly, Nancy's death date from FindAGrave was originally 12 Mar 1834, which I now believe is more correct than the March 12, 1832 that was transcribed from the Family Bible. Since this same Bible lists Nancy's daughter Elizabeth Ann Parkes as born July 8, 1833 (more than a year after her mother's death!)

oops - cannot drop children!
I forgot that you cannot change children, only parents. So, please disregard my message to the extent that I said that there is a change that you could make to drop AQS as a child of Richard. Sorry about that. :-)

Albin Shaw
Hi Beverly,

I don't know if you have seen the notes written on our private FB page, but cousin Susan G. wrote an excellent analysis of the various Albin Shaws. I take no credit for it, but want you to know that, if accurate, it would require you to change your memorial. I have asked "Denica" to further research and possibly change the parents that she has listed for # 79466613.

Best regards,

Monica S.

"Hereís what we know about the three younger Albin Shawís in Ohio and Indiana.

1-- Albin Shaw b OH 1804-1806 (dates from 1850, 1860 and 1870 census), d after 1870, m (1) Rush Co. IN 15 Mar 1827 Hannah Little, m (2) Rush Co. IN 19 Nov 1849 Mary P. (Daly) Simpson.
2--Albin Shaw b OH 1808 (date from tombstone), d Rush Co. IN 26 Oct 1887, m Butler Co. OH est 1828 (son b 1 Aug 1829) Ruth Welch
3--Albin Shaw b 15 Nov 1810 (date calculated from age at death given on his tombstone), d Rush Co. IN 4 Sep 1847, m Hamilton Co. OH 7 Mar 1833 Huldah Griffith. He is widely identified as the father of ďthe singing evangelistĒ Knowles Shaw, and therefore considered to be the son Albin named in the nuncupative will of Knowles Shaw (1757-1831).

Because there are no other Shaw's available to be their fathers, the first two Albinís have to be a late born son of Albin Shaw Sr. and an early born son of Albin Sr.ís eldest son Richard Shaw. Albin Sr. died in Ross, Butler, OH in 1829. Son Richard purchased land in Rush Co. IN in 1820 or 1821 (according to "Centennial History of Rush County, Indiana") and probably moved there soon after. Richardís daughters Ellis and Elizabeth married in Rush Co. in 1827. His son George married there in 1830. Based only on these facts, it seems more likely that the Albin Shaw who married in Rush Co. in 1827 was Richardís son. He would have been 15-17 if Richard moved to Indiana in 1821.

There was indeed an Albin Shaw in Rush Co. in 1823, and he was old enough to be accused of a rather adult crime. According to the "Centennial History of Rush County, Indiana," in November 1823 the circuit court "tried the case of the State of Indiana vs. Albin Shaw for adultery and fornication. He pleaded not guilty, and a jury was empaneled to try the case, viz., Andrew Gilson, Richard Thornberry, James Abbottt, William Dill, Adam Conde, William Alexander, Sampson Cassady, Amos Baldwin, Amos Dickerson, James Walker, David Morris, and John Nash, who returned a verdict of not guilty. According to the records, this was the first petit jury that found a verdict in the Rush Circuit Court, and this the first case decided by a jury in that court." (Thanks to Lynne Collins for pointing out this interesting tidbit of Shaw history.)

Surely, this was not Albin Sr., age 58, running over to Rush Co. to cause a little trouble before going back to Butler Co. OH where he died six years later. Albin b 1808 would have been age 15 and Albin b 1810 would have been 13, which seems a little young for this behavior. And letís also consider that Albin b 1810 raised a famous minister! That leaves Albin b 1804-1806, who would have been 17-19 in 1823 (really, I hope he was 19!), apparently sowing some wild oats before settling down to marry Hannah Little in 1827.

In 1830, Albin b 1804-1806 was living in Rush Co. IN with wife Hannah and his first two children, daughters Lydia and Huldah. In 1830, Albin b 1808 was living in Butler Co. OH with wife Ruth and his first born son Thomas. In 1830, Albin b 1810 was living with his mother Sophia (Ogg) Shaw in Butler Co. OH. All three were in Rush Co. by 1840, two of them listed as Alvin Shaw, but you can readily distinguish their census records by the implied marriage dates and family configurations seen in 1830.

There is an additional glimmer of confirmation that Albin b 1804-1806 was Richardís son in the naming patterns for his children with Hannah Little, daughter of John and Lydia Little, particularly the first two daughters:

Lydia b abt 1828 (first daughter named after motherís mother)
Huldah b 1830 (second daughter named after fatherís mother)
James b 1833 (possibly named after motherís sisterís husband, James Shaw)
John b 1838 (named after motherís father)
Ellen b abt 1840 (not clear who she is named after)
Richard b abt 1844 (named after fatherís father)

That leaves Albin Shaw born 1808 as the son of the senior Albin Shaw. To muddy the waters, this Albin also named a son Richard, who in this scenario would be named after his brother Richard, and a son John named after his uncle and grandfather. But he kept going. He named children Elvira, Plinny and Amanda, all of which were names of his presumed siblings. If he were Richardís son, he would be naming his children Plinny and Amanda after an uncle and aunt, a possible but less likely scenario.

The more compelling evidence that he was not the son of Richard, however, is that he wasnít in Rush Co. when Richard Shawís other children were there. In 1830, he remained in Butler Co. where his father Albin Sr. had just died the previous year." by Susan G.

looking for Netherlys
Hi,
the memorial you started for Franklin P Centers. Do you know any history on him, or is this a stone you did? He might be a brother to
Anna Belle (Centers) Helton, born in Ironton Ohio. She is my Great Grandmother. Can you offer any information?

Anne Belle was married to William Ballard Helton.
I'm looking for her mother's name. I know her father was Jack Centers. William was married to a Nannie Denniston as well. Several children from both marriages, any help welcomed

thank you
