Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Brenda Kale Ballard and I started researching my ancestry after my father passed away in 2008. I am very interested in genealogy and am currently in the process of constructing a family tree.

Please feel free to use any pictures of tombstones that I added to Find A Grave which were taken by me. I feel that if the information provided can help someone find their "roots" it is well worth the effort of uploading the pictures.

If you find errors or duplicates of my memorials, please click on the "Edit" tab on the memorial. Then click on the "Suggest a correction" link on the Edit page. Follow the instructions to submit your correction. If you choose to leave a request for correction or transfer directly on my contributor page, be sure to include the memorial ID # of the memorial to be updated and your contributor ID # if you are requesting a transfer. I will gladly transfer a memorial to immediate family members only. At the time of the request, please identify your relationship with the person you want transferred to you. Many of the memorials I create are people who are either in my husband's tree or mine. Therefore, if you request one of those memorials, I will not be able to accommodate you.

My husband and I love to photograph cemeteries in both Cabarrus and Stanly Counties. Thus far, in Cabarrus County, we have photographed all of Cold Springs United Methodist Church, Saint Martin Lutheran Church, Saint Paul United Methodist , Furr Family Cemetery, Paul Furr Family Graveyard, John Reed Cemetery, and Tucker Cemetery. In Stanly County, we photographed all of Loves Chapel & Loves Grove Methodist Churches, Oakboro Cemetery, Mission Baptist Church, Flat Rock Lutheran Church, and Locust Presbyterian. We love to document the final resting places of those who came before us and hope that this will help others in their ancestry search.

I am a retired teacher who taught school for 30 years in three counties in North Carolina. I earned a BA in Elementary Education with a concentration in Language Arts and a Masters of Education (MED) degree. I also earned my National Board Certification in 2001 as a Middle Childhood Generalist.

I am learning that genealogy can be quite addictive!

RE: Infant Auten
I thought that you asked me to add either SON or DAUGHTER as the middle name of an infant. Who? I can't remember. Initially, I declined your request. I have gone back to that infant and added the infant's sex as their middle name. Who knows... maybe it wasn't even your request. Terry

RE: Wallace Harrelson
Good morning Mrs. Ballard. I received your note regarding the deletion of your version of Wally's memorial. Thank you ma'am so much. That was very generous of you, and I truly appreciate it. His burial location was promptly added to my version of his memorial, right after I received your note. Again, thank you ma'am so much, and I hope you have a great upcoming weekend!

RE: Nicy
No research. Only past practice based on what I read on her headstone. It states on Nicy's headstone that she was a slave. A common practice has been to take on the last name of the owner. If someone where trying to locate her grave by means of searching I believe that they would have another opportunity to find her other than only using her first name. Do you what feels most beneficial and appropriate. Terry

Homer Butner
Hi Brenda,
This cemetery was created fictitiously by someone that is no longer with us. You will find Homer in the Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Yancey County. Move him over there soon, cause we have found this cemetery to be imaginary.

Suena Carpenter
The Suena Carpenter you have on St. Marks Lutheran Church Cemetery, Cherryville, NC, is not wife of Myrtle Carpenter. Her husband was James B. Farris. She was a sister to Myrtle. I have been trying to find Suena Carpenter Farris' tombstone and finally found thru Ancestry info that she had been married to James B. Farris. He died sometime earlier. Have not been able to find much about him except they were married. Elizabeth had added Suena Carpenter Farris and the information on her death. I could not understand why I could not find her tombstone but finally paid a little more attention to the Carpenter family info. I have been working on St. Mark's Cemetery (my church cemetery which my 2 boys worked on to get their God & Country Scout Award in the 1970's)to try to get it uptodate. Thought you would want to correct or delete.

Thank you for the use of your photos. Using several for family trees. I'm a cemetery nut too along with my best friend, the history of them, the connections of family, so I totally understand. And, yes, genealogy is VERY addictive. I've gone from my tree to doing trees for friends. Love it!
