Old Hepzibah I have wanted to help initiate a clean up for this cemetery for a long time. I first saw this cemetery in 1985. I was able to find a group of people who go around restoring and cleaning up abandoned cemeteries. They are going to begin clean-up tomorrow 9/30/2015. A group of us (including some members of Hepzibah baptist and possibly a local Boy Scout group) will be meeting on Saturday 10/3. If anyone would like to join in feel free to send me an email. email@example.com
Old Hepzibah Gravestones I have a transcription of the cemetery from 2000 done by one Georgia Garrett. Your grandparents are not listed that I saw but in 200 when this was done many of the stones had already been destroyed but time and vandals. I would love to be able to clean up and restore this cemetery, including replacing the gravestones.
Gravestones for Miles J. and Rachel C. Parsons Thank you for posting these gravestones. Miles and Rachel are my great-great-great grandparents. About 2006 Old Hepzibah Cemetery was hit by a tornado. Most of the Parsons and Kennedy family stones were destroyed and scattered over the farmers field that adjoins the cemetery. The farmer used a tractor to pick up the stones and just piled them in the middle of the cemetery destroying most of the remaining stones. The last time I was there, the only Parsons/Kennedy stone still standing was the one belonging to Rachel. Even though only a few feet separated her stone from the stones of her husband and children, hers is the only monument left. The photos I took are not nearly as clear as yours, so thank you again for posting these beautiful stones. Shelby Jean Raju
Kent Family Hi I decend off James Monroe Kent and Franzina Preston.Their daughter Marietta Kent Graves was a 3rd Great Grandmother of mine.Looking for any history on the Kent Families o npo they were from SC and Ga.
RE: Kent Hello and I hope you are doing well. I didn't take this photo but copied it from another location and posted it to this one. These are my paternal great grandparents. (Their daughter Rosa was my father's mother.) I see that you created the memorial. How are you related?
RE: Picture of marker for Mr. Pettis Both of their markers are round copperish metal discs with a radius of 4" across. If you click on the photo, you can see the details. I have to compress the pictures so F.A.G. can accomodate it them...Also, Charles Henderson Pettis, is nowhere to be found on this graveyard's data bank and I have alsked them to search for him twice. I suggest perhaps you can check with Miami-Dade County death records, Office of the Clerk, Harvey Ruvin (they have on online site).
