Bio

When my father passed away in 1967, I realized I was the oldest living male Panhorst in our family. That started my fifty year quest of genealogy research. I spent countless hours at libraries looking at microfilm and recording data the old fashion way, with pencil and paper. This culminated when I distributed an electronic copy of our families genealogy.

I retired in 2002, and my wife, Phyllis, and I moved to Lake Murray near Prosperity, SC. Having no family in the south, I began assisting others in their families genealogy research. This lead to my recording our church's cemetery records, including birth and death dates, plus the spouse's maiden name and father's name. This was then expanded to include some 12,800 Lutheran burials in 29 Lutheran cemeteries, which was privately published in November 2018, titled “Lutheran Saints of the Dutch Fork area of South Carolina”. This book also included the spouse's maiden name, fathers name, cemetery and some other data. Find-A-Grave was a tremendous asset in accumulating information on these families. I am currently writing a new book of similar design on the Methodist Cemeteries in the Dutch Fork. My South Carolina db now includes over 78,000 individuals with a lot of source information. If you think I may have data on your ancestors, please feel free to E-mail me at the address below.

Over the years I have really enjoyed finding old family burial grounds, photographing and recording the burials. A lot of this work was done at the request of FAG members. It is my way of repaying the countless individual that have assisted me over the past fifty years. Thank you.

The underscore and “J” for John are sometimes misread.
