I started this journey trying to find my roots and discover my lines. I was involved in an accident that caused me to be paralyzed. I went in for a hysterectomy and the epidural needle used for anesthesia cut the nerves to my right leg! I went from traveling a week every month running nonstop seeing new sights to staying home traversing with a walker! I had to find a hobby since I no longer could drive long distances and adventure as I once did. For two years I cried wondering, "Why Me?". Of all the people I knew, I was the one person who could not sit still for two seconds...always on the go was I. One day as I was lamenting my lot, I looked up at a photo of my great grandmother Elizabeth Barrow Wylde on my wall. It looked a little dusty. I grabbed the walker, found a dust cloth, and started dusting. On the back was a very old penned family tree. It piqued my interest. It started my new found love of genealogy.

Once I started, several family members have jumped in to help with this discovery. We have family members well into their 90s joining this search, relating their stories and encouraging the college aged children to help the quest. This is a family account.

There is much excitement in trying to put the pieces together to form this wonderful puzzle called FAMILY. Thanks to all of you for helping me in my efforts. I truly DO appreciate each and every one of you! This genealogical community is a family as well.

I was blessed with a wonderful mother and father who taught us to serve others. They instilled in each of us that desire to be helpful. They taught us to be kind to others. They wanted each of us to care for our fellow man. My wonderful Mother was Elizabeth Barrow Haring Nurmi , and my father was John Albert Nurmi. My dear brother who died OH so early was Lawrence Albert Nurmi .

We have all been touched by a neighbor. Many do leave an imprint on our lives. I was particularly blessed with an older couple who helped me grow up. They were Albert and Inez Balme. I am not sure how they managed to stay sane with a inquisitive little girl like me living next door! This memorial tells a bit of a story about me.

Here is a Dear Dear friend of mine who died when she was 11 years old. Virginia Lee McLeod. She went away for a 4th of July weekend on the West Coast of Florida only to contract encephalitis.

Family is family - no matter if it is 50 years or 500 years old! A direct line does not matter. Cousins and Uncles and Aunts have always played a large role in any family. I will not transfer a memorial if someone has a private tree or has not written bios and done links on those memorials already transferred to them. It is "all about" sharing our research and disseminating information to others to help them in their research. I have never been a fan of those who do not want to share. Never have been.
