Glen, Just curious if you have ever had your Y DNA tested. my husband Ron Marcus just got the results of his DNA and there are 6 names on the list -- one of which is Glen Marquis. Just wondering if this could be you. Fay

Possible correction
Frist of all, thank you for all your hard work! I have been helped several times by your notes and research!

I have a possible correction for Find A Grave Memorial# 95536991 for Lawrence Vogelsong. I don't think that Barbara Vogelson or Patricia Vogelson. I see in several obituaries that they were both the daughters of Charles Walter Vogelsong and Marguerite O Mawhorr Vogelsong.

Thanks!

Thomas

After rechckinf my records, I realized that both of those memorials were erroneous. He is in fact at Mount Zion Cemetery in Ashton, Mason, West Virginia. I am so sorry for the confusion. Sharon

RE: Franklin P. Marquis
Thanks --- then you would be a very very distant relative to my husband Ron.

RE: Franklin P. Marquis
Yes. I am doing a family tree of the Marcus/Marquis/Marquess family. There are a few still spelling the name Marquess which appears to be the original spelling - most changed to Marquis by early 1700s. William George Marquess came to Frederick County, Virginia --- he had at least 5 sons. Most went to Cross Creek, Washington County, PA then spread out into Ohio, KY, IN, That branch of the family appears to use Marquis. One son stayed in Opequon, Frederick Co, VA (south of Winchester, VA). Only this branch of the family changed to Marcus. The family story is that the young children were not able to write the letter Q so the teacher changed it to Marcus. William had a daughter Mary that married John Wilson (who was a school teacher). Mary's tombstone (1720 - 1742) in the Opequon cemetery has Marcus --- but Marquis was still used for several more years .
