Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am an avid genealogist and local historian. I became a member of findagrave in order to ensure that the burial sites of my family members are appropriately recorded. Through this process, I will be happy to photograph the tombstone or grave of your family member.

Although findagrave's main objective is to be a grave registration site, I think we all need to remember that any time the name or information of a decedent is registered in an unofficial (non government related) capacity, it is a tribute to that person to honor their memory. I am not a member of findagrave for any social status or to have impressive findagrave stats as I have encountered some individuals who do which I feel is disrespectful. For those of you who are contributors to this site in order to honor the deceased, I commend you for all of your efforts.

RE: George and Catherine Fluck Smith
"I wonder why he wasn't referenced in the will.."---Maybe because he wasn't their son.

What relatives are mentioned in the Ardmore history?

RE: George and Catherine Fluck Smith
While it's possible that your Tobias was the son of George & Catharine, I have two concerns with that theory.

1. When was your Tobias born? You state 1792. His death notice suggests 1803/04. The 1850 census suggests 1796/97. If you have proof that he was born 1792, then he's not the son of George & Catharine. Their son Tobias was born 1796/1797 (baptized May 1797 but no birthdate given). So the census record would be a fit, but then why do other sources suggest different dates?

2. Catharine (Fluck) Smith's brother John died without children so his estate was divided in 1845 among his brother's and sister's heirs. Catharine's heirs are listed as her son George, her son John (deceased, left children), her son Jacob (deceased, left children) and her daughter Mary (wife of Balzer Stoever). Tobias is not listed as her heir (neither is her daughter Catharine born 1795). So my interpretation would be that Catharine's son Tobias died before 1845 without children. Your Tobias died in 1860 with children. I guess it's possible that Tobias was left out of the list of heirs but that seems unlikely.

What does the Ardmore history say about Tobias?

Tobias Smith
I see your Tobias now. If the age in his death notice is correct, he's too young to be the son of George & Catharine. Also, my information is that George & Catharine's son Tobias died before 1845. I'll have to check my sources to see where I got that.

What are the dates for your Tobias and where did he live? George & Catharine had a son Tobias but I don't know what happened to him.

Vesta Chestnut
Hello, I walked the entire cemetery today and couldn't find Vesta Chestnut. This is an old cemetery. There are quite a headstones missing, sadly broken off at the base, leaving only the footer. I will try again to locate but felt you would like an update.
