Veteran's Memorials After completing a review of ALL photos of memorials at Forest Lawn Cypress, FindaGrave updated to allow us to mark veterans memorials. With over 6,000 identified in the virtual cemeteries on my profile, I was worried about having to manually set the switch. BUT, Support@findagrave came through!! They were able to set the switch on all the memorials I had in those virtual cemeteries!!
So, IF you come across a memorial that is NOT included in these virtual cemeteries, PLEASE, let me know, as I hope to pass along the list to the cemetery office.

Updated- As of 5/1/2023, due to the great help of JustMe, who has been photographing row after row of previously unphotographed memorials, more than 100 more memorials of veterans have been added. All help is greatly appreciated! As of 1/19/2023, manually examination, one at a time of all memorials at Forest Lawn Cypress that have a photo on the memorial was completed. Over 6500 veterans were found. However, this project ONLY looked at memorials that had a photo of the marker prior to this project. There are still thousands of memorials with no photo of a marker.
As of 12/1/2022 - Manually examining all memorials with photos (currently 60,000 at this cemetery) to find more veterans. This is a one at a time, examine each memorial, project. This was completed as of 1/19/2023 for

Forest Lawn Cypress Updates
I have been working through over 15000 updates to add missing birth info to memorials that were created over a decade ago. As of early 2021, over 10,000 updates have been completed for all memorials that had info available in the CA birth and death index records (generally, births prior to 1960). This left about 4000 with no birth info. Forest Lawn changed their record display to include birth info, and some of these can now be updated. As of Nov 16 2022, I have completed updates on all sections. What remains are 100 memorials with no birth or death info, and 68 with only death dates, that will need to have photos added in order to check for dates.

Many of the memorials were created based on records that were based on optical character recognition of old records. To get the most accurate info, photos are needed to be sure we have accurate info. Please request a photo of the marker BEFORE you request edits from me for Forest Lawn, please. This makes it much easier to validate. Use the REQUEST A PHOTO button.

We have great photo volunteers for this area and once the photo is posted, I will evaluate your requested changes. Use the "suggest other corrections" section to tell me about the evidence for the correction if it does not match the marker.

It is my hope to provide Forest Lawn Cypress with a database of every military veteran located within this cemetery.
I grew up on military bases, and knew guys and gals from every branch of the service. Some made it home, some didn't, and some still suffer. For those who served, I honor you. Painstakingly adding every Veteran to this virtual cemetery. 1530 were located initially through electronic records. Through the past dozen years or so, manual methods led to identification, one at a time, of over 4000! Slowly but surely, photo volunteers are adding a photo to each grave.

My virtual cemeteries for this project contain ALL identified veterans memorials at Forest Lawn Cypress alphabetically by last name. There is also a virtual cemetery for those memorials that still need additional info, like a photo, or full plot info.

Note="FALSE" - This was an error introduced during an upload by FAG. Difficult to find them all, so feel free to request an edit on any you find. [identified one batch #104654576 thru #104656934. That is 2358 memorials that had to be corrected one at a time -- all in Sunrise Section. I was finally able to complete corrections to that batch on 6/19/2020. But, there may be others.

Any photo that I personally posted is ok to use for personal family history only. I do not authorize my photos to be uploaded to pay sites, or for use in publications UNLESS YOU CONTACT ME SPECIFICALLY FOR PERMISSION.

Pioneer Cemetery Sylmar
Came across a listing of burials at this cemetery, and added them to Find A Grave. Great updates from Ann have increased the information available, as she and her mother have looked up death certificates and updated the dates, places, and included family names where possible.
