My step mother started taking me to the cemetery when I was a teenager. All her family came from Patrick Co., Virginia, so they are buried up around Dry Pond or Holt Ridge. I've always loved history and found there was so much of it here in the cemetery. |
My family names are:
Needham (Surry Co. NC),
Adams (Patrick Co. VA & Surry Co. NC),
Hunter (Surry Co. NC)
Wear (Blount Co. TN, Cherokee Co. AL, Bradley Co. AR, Bexar Co. TX )
Grant & Walker (SC to Habersham Co. GA)
Bowles (Green Co. GA)
(My husbands family) Munson, Watts,Patton, Patty, Padier,Goins. (La, OK, Ato Co. TX Bexar Co. TX)
(My Step-mothers family) Holt, Goings, Goins, Bowman, Frye........
and many others that I do for friends and family. I have found wonderful cousins I never new I had.
Some of the obits I've posted may be offensive to some but we have to look at them has a part of history and ignorance. I hope they will help someone in their research, to connect to a family member.
I will be happy to transfer any of your family over to you or take pictures for you. I'm not picky about how close a kin they were. Just that you maintain them.
I'm in Surry Co. NC and Patrick Co. VA once a year and will be happy to look for headstones for anyone while I'm up there. I also have the cemetery book for Patrick Co. VA, and the Surry Co. NC Heritage book 1 & 2 and the History of Gonzales Co. book.
Feel free to use any of my pictures or research. They are there for all to share. Please do not add death certificates or pictures of obits to memorial.
Please use the edit tab when making corrections or links. It goes a lot faster. Thank you
Thank you everyone in helping with links and dates and corrections. I some times spell words out of order "Irlen Syndrome" so please forgive me and thanks again, for your helping with correction's and up dates.

Thank you so much for Ben's obit! So sad, but that TB affected the entire family, except the mother, I guess, as she lived a long life and came to help my Grandmother and Grandfather Moore when my mom and her sister were born. I don't know how she escaped that disease. It would explain how my mom and aunt always said she was a grumpy, mean old woman! She had buried most of her family and had so many children. My grandfather escaped TB by going to West Texas in the warm dry air, to work in the oil fields. He spent the rest of his life in Central Texas, after that 2 or 3 year stint in the oil fields.
Thanks for everything!!! I'm so grateful!!
I would like to pick up your photo request but Sparkman Hillcrest (SH) does not like to provide burial locations to volunteers, citing privacy issues. Your cooperation is needed in order for requests to be filled. The volunteers will need you to call SH and request the location. Their phone number is 214-363-5401. Once you have the location, please add it to your request. Thanks.

Thank you for everything! I anxiously await Ben's obit. I know what happened. His whole family had TB, and most were lost to it. My grandpa escaped to the oil fields of West Texas and took one of his brothers with him to try and help him get over the TB.

Thank you SO much for creating the memorial for my Gr-Aunt, Dora, and putting the wonderful obituary on her memorial. I've heard my grandpa talk about her, and it was lovely to read about what a sweet funeral she had. I've added photos to the memorial, and you will see that she was a very pretty young lady. TB took many of the family, and so many others in that area. Thanks again for this and the pending obit on Ben Moore!

Cindy, I would be excited to have the article in the Gonzales Inquirer about the death of Ben Moore, Feb. 9, 1916. He was my Grandfather's brother. Thank you so much for offering this. My e-mail is: email@example.com
Are you related to the Moore's?
Grateful to you!

Cindy, Thank you for your work on Father Needham. He is my 3rd Great Grandfather on my mothers side. Most my family is still in Surry County to this day. It was so nice to be able to read up more on him. I have two pieces of paperwork on him I would like you to look at (if you haven't seen them already) you can email me at... firstname.lastname@example.org
